MANKATO, Minn. — Minnesota State edged St. Thomas and Concordia-St. Paul in a pair duals, highlighted by Averi Larsen’s first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard freestyle.
MSU defeated UST 151-146, while also besting CSP 230-69. The Mavericks now own a 4-1 dual record on the season.
Minnesota State showcased a strong performance in their dual meet against St. Thomas and Concordia St. Paul. The team claimed victory in the Women’s 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:46.66, highlighting the efforts of sophomore Savannah Acker, Larsen, freshman Parker Schmieding, and sophomore Sydney Pippert. Acker also excelled in individual events, securing second place in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 57.50 and first in the 200 Yard Backstroke, clocking in at 2:06.97. In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Larsen led the team with a first-place finish, posting a time of 53.39.
In the Women’s 200 Yard Freestyle, standout performances included sophomore Hannah Denzer, who finished first with a time of 1:57.28, closely followed by freshman Gracie Bartholomew at 1:58.86. The Mavericks’ relay teams continued to impress in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, with the ‘A’ team finishing first in 1:38.44, bolstered by the efforts of Pippert, Acker, Bartholomew, and sophomore Norah Naatjes. Additionally, Natalie Freeman delivered a strong performance on the diving board, placing second in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 237.70.
Larsen was a standout for the Mavericks, showing versatility and strength across multiple events. She captured first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.07 and led the 100-yard freestyle with a 53.39 finish. Acker delivered strong performances in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard backstroke. Her split of 26.69 in the medley relay contributed to the team’s first-place finish, while she clocked a 2:06.97 in the backstroke. Schmieding also excelled, securing a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.16 and contributing to the relay teams. Bartholomew was another key competitor, placing third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.86 and swimming a fast split in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Mavericks will travel to face Southwest Minnesota State on November 15, with the action set to begin at 1 p.m. at Don Palm Natatorium in Marshall, Minn.

MANKATO, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas women’s swim and dive program continued to make waves in its trip to Mankato, Minnesota over the weekend. The Tommies impressed in their three-way dual with Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul, with several individuals earning first place finishes Saturday afternoon.
WOMEN’S RESULTS: ST. THOMAS vs. MINNESOTA STATE / CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL
St. Thomas won eight individual races or events in Mankato on Saturday, with Maya Kelly (Lake Elmo, Minn. / Stillwater) and Brooke Gothard (Golden, Colo. / Wheat Ridge) winning multiple events for the Tommies.
- Kelly swept the diving events for the first time in her career with the Purple, claiming the top spot in the both the 1-meter and 3-meter competition. The first year won the 1-meter with a score of 219.15 before finishing first in 3-meter with a season best score of 274.65.
- Gothard also won two races, the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM, over the weekend. The first year swam the fastest time in the 200 breaststroke at 2:25.11 before winning the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.68.
- Katie Prunty (Wexford, Ireland / Colaiste Bride Enniscorthy) earned her first individual win as a Tommie on Saturday in the 1000 free thanks to a time of 10:58.61).
- Teammate Sophia Hayes (Naperville, Ill. / Central) won the 500 freestyle for the second consecutive meet thanks to her time of 5:18.18.
- Jordyn Davis (Cambridge, Wis. / Cambridge) once again won the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.22 while Emily Wooden (Chino Hills, Calif. / Ayala) won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:12.15.

UP NEXT
St. Thomas will be back in action on Saturday, November 8, as the Tommies host St. Cloud State University. The dual is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. in the Anderson Pool.

MANKATO, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul women’s swim and dive team dropped a competitive double-dual to the Mavericks of Minnesota State and the Tommies of St. Thomas on Saturday at the Highland Pool on the campus of MSU.
Sophie Leo was once again the highlight for the Golden Bears, securing the squad’s lone first-place finish to mark her 26th collegiate victory and sixth of the season. Leo’s victory included her finishing ahead of seven Tommies who swim at the NCAA Division I level.
Claire Briest rounded out the top-three finishers for the Navy and Gold, taking third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.06.
On the diving board, Chloe Jones notched a top-five finish in the 1-meter dive with a score of 206.80.
The Golden Bears tallied seven top-five finishes and 18 top-10 placements in today’s double-dual.
The Golden Bears will return to the pool on Nov. 15 to face the Dragons of MSU Moorhead in a dual at the Nemzek Pool in Moorhead, Minn.
