San Diego State Women, Denver Men Go Undfeated In Quad Meet

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The San Diego State swim and dive team wrapped up its weekend with another dominating performance, winning seven more event titles on Saturday during the second wave of action in a double dual meet against California Baptist and UC Santa Barbara at Lancer Aquatics Center.

With their efforts, the Aztecs defeated the host Lancers (267.50-117.50) and Gauchos (214.50-164.50) after capturing 14 crowns in 20 events over the two-day competition. Consequently, the Scarlet and Black has won 80 straight dual meets since Jan. 8, 2018, a span of nearly eight years.

Alli Mann was a double winner on Saturday, emerging victorious in the 100 freestyle with a personal-best time of 49.44, which ranks seventh in school history. In addition, the SDSU sophomore was triumphant in the 100 butterfly after completing a career-fast swim of 53.52, which is also slotted seventh on the program’s all-time charts.

Elsewhere, Reka Nyiradi topped the competition in the 200 individual medley with a collegiate-fast time of 2:01.41 after posting a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a career-best clocking of 4:54.67.

Not to be outdone, Abby Storm surpassed an NCAA “B” cut time in the 200 backstroke, winning the race with a season-best performance of 1:56.27. The SDSU senior also recorded the fastest time in the 50 back with a sprint of 24.54, but the result was deemed an exhibition.

The Aztecs captured another title the 200 breaststroke, where Elisa Branca touched the wall with a winning time of 2:14.40, which marks a collegiate best, while Isabella Gomez took home her second straight diving crown after posting a triumphant score of 252.25 points on the 1-meter springboard.

Additionally, Saturday’s action featured a Scarlet and Black victory in the 200 medley relay, where Storm joined forces with Moa BergdahlSierra Tallman and Alyssa Schiller for a winning effort of 1:40.57, with Bergdahl taking second later in the meet with a sprint of 28.56 in the 50 breaststroke. Schiller also tied for second in the 100 free with a season-fast clocking of 50.61,

Along with Storm’s win, the Aztecs displayed their incredible depth in the 200 back, featuring the four other top-five finishers, including Liv Peebles (2:03.30), who edged Melanie Quinto (2:03.33) for second, while Alex Downing (2:04.10) and Grace Mering (2:04.40) took fourth and fifth, respectively, with their results counting as exhibitions.

Following Branca’s triumph in the 200 breast, Roni Black (2:17.79) placed third in the race, while Bergdahl (2:19.49) was slotted fourth.

Emily Tenczar gave the Scarlet and Black another third-place performer in the 100 fly with a clocking of 55.51, while diver Alina Skrocki tied for the third spot on the 1-meter board with a score of 230.45.

Rounding out the weekend’s activities was the 400 freestyle relay, where the Aztec foursome of Mann, Kaydence Bispo, Schiller and Camille Seiley combined for the second-fastest time of the event at 3:24.09, but the result was scored as an exhibition.

San Diego State will return to competition for the Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational, Nov. 19-22, in St. George, Utah, while Aztec divers will travel to the Grand Canyon State that same weekend for the first edition of the Lumberjack Invitational, Nov. 20-22, in Flagstaff, Arizona.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Denver men’s swimming and diving team program picked up a pair of dual wins in its west coast trip, earning victory over Cal Baptist and UCSB on Saturday afternoon at the Lancer Aquatics Center.

Denver opened the second-half of the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay when Quinn CollinsKito CampbellHamish McLellan and Luke Milburn combined for a time of 1:28.81.

In the final distance race of the weekend, Denver earned three of the top five spots in the 500 free. Dylan Mes led the Pioneers trio with a second-place finish in a time of 4:27.97. Joseph Hancock took third in 4:28.79 and Finn Holdredge finished fifth with a time of 4:32.63.

Campbell earned his second breaststroke win of the weekend, taking the top time in the race with a 24.93.

McLellan finished second in a tight 100 free with a time of 44.67. Matija Pantic took fourth in the freestyle race with a 44.81.

Campbell made it a clean sweep of the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke, taking the 200 in a time of 1:59.14. Morton was right behind his teammate in 1:59.14.

In the 100 fly, McLellan brought home his third individual event title of the weekend with a 47.52.

Denver had five student-athletes finish in the top six in the 200 IM, led by an event title in Nico Morton. The win for Morton was completed in 1:50.27. Gabe Jones finished third in 1:51.19, Cota Clise grabbed fourth in 1:51.38, Max Roslin finished fifth in 1:51.70 and Noah Laird wrapped up the group of Pios in sixth in 1:52.18.

The swimming portion of the meet concluded with Denver finishing second in the 400 free relay when Pantic, Tommy Hancock, Milburn and Mes finished in 3:00.94.

In diving over the weekend, Colin Breuer led the Pioneers with a third-place finish in the 3-meter with a score of 262.20 and a second place finish in the 1-meter competition with a 270.10.

UP NEXT:
Denver will have the month of November off before the Pioneers head out for their first championship style meet of the year, the 2025 Minnesota Invite. The three-day meet begins on Thursday, December 4 and runs through December 6.

Riverside,  Calif. – The Gauchos wrapped up their third team meet of the 2025-26 season today. Both the men’s and women’s teams were victorious in one of their two duel meets this weekend. The women’s team defeated the hosting Cal Baptist Lancers with a final score of UC Santa Barbara (281) and CBU (104), the women’s team also placed second against San Diego State this weekend. The final slate of that duel meet read San Diego State (214) and UC Santa Barbara (164). The men’s squad also ends this weekend with a win and a loss. UC Santa Barbara held Cal Baptist off with a final score of the Gauchos (232) and the Lancers (150). Against University of Denver, the Gauhcos came up just short this weekend. After it was all said and done the final score read UC Santa Barbara (179) and the University of Denver (206).

The Blue and Gold’s strong performance down in Riverside was highlighted by first, second, and third place finishes in the men’s 200 Free. Senior Owen Berry earned gold with a time of 1:36.90, sophomore Elek Zettle took silver with a time of 1:38.31, and sophomore Mason Wendler brought home bronze with a time of 1:38.52 to complete the top three sweep for the Gauchos.

The Gauchos also took four of the top five finishes in men’s 200 Fly,  three of them were freshmen. First-year Henry Heit brought home a second place finish with a time of 1:49.81. Senior Billy Picht finished in 1:49.86, placing him third. Freshman Lucas Hubbard swam a time of 1:50.95 for a fourth place finish. Finally, freshman Diego Castaneda finished fifth with a time of 1:51.33.

The women’s team also dominated, taking three of the top five finishes in the 200 fly. Samantha Banos continued her reign over this event, as she has never finished anywhere less than first all season, she finished with a time of 1:57.56 and another victory. Junior Sammie Hall placed third with a time of 2:02.72, and senior Annie Andres finished 5th with a time of 2:03.56.

The Gauchos nearly swept the women’s 500 free, taking seven of ten top finishes. Samantha Banos added another first-place finish to her resume with a time of 4.52:54. Senior Ellie Schomberg finished third with a time of 5:02.21. Freshman Leila Symington swam a time of 5:02.61, which placed her fourth. Senior Annie Andres placed fifth with a time of 5:02.64. Second Year Anna Brill finished with a time of 5:04.07, which placed her sixth. Freshman Devon Silberman placed seventh with a time of 5:07.78. Senior Isabella Martinez finished ninth with a time of 5:10.70.

Both the men’s and women’s teams clinched first in the 200 free relays. The women’s team consisted of freshman Caitlin Brown, junior Greta Collison, senior Ashley Ray, and junior Eugenie Lanilis, who all finished with a time of 1:32.36. The Men’s team finished with 1:21.10, made up of sophomore Elek Zettle, sophomore Noah Wagner-Jauregg, sophomore Mason Wendler, and senior Zachary Tamusaitis.

Next Time Out

On Nov. 14th, the Gauchos will travel down to Pepperdine University in Malibu  to take on the UC San Diego Tritons as well as the hosting Pepperdine Waves.

RIVERSIDE — The Lancers concluded a two-day meet at the Lancer Aquatics Center on Saturday. In town to compete with CBU were San Diego State, UC Santa Barbara, the University of Hawai’i, and the University of Denver.

Action was split across two days, as the first half of the competition wrapped up on Friday evening. Athletes returned to the pool on Saturday for the final events in both swimming and diving.

One Zone E qualification was achieved over the weekend, as Mario Del Valle hit the 3-meter qualification with a score of 331.30. Del Valle joins John Angelovic, who qualified in one- and three-meters last week. Del Valle placed first in three-meter diving, and Angelovic placed first in one-meter with a score of 312.25.

Women’s dive was led by third-place finishes from Jade Fontenelle in both one (230.45) and three-meter (233.55). Bella Reynolds placed fourth in three-meter with a score of 232.10.

In the pool, Mark Kovacsics continued his fast start to the season with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:08.49). Kovacsics also added a win in the 500-yard freestyle (4:25.39). Stephen Cui added a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.11. Cui later won again in the 50-yard backstroke (22.29).

The Lancers had second-place finishes as well. The women’s 400-yard freestyle relay team placed second behind Santa Barbara. The team consisted of Naya KocEliza TaylorAvery Easterling, and Emily DrosselEli Rollen placed second in the men’s 200-yard IM (1:50.78) and 200-yard backstroke (1:46.84). Benjamin Madson also added a runner-up finish behind Cui in the 50-yard backstroke (23.11).

In team scoring, Santa Barbara and Denver won their men’s competitions against CBU. Santa Barbara and San Diego State won the women’s side. Hawai’i only competed in diving.

Women’s Swim will compete next weekend on the road against Northern Colorado. Men’s swim will be back in action on November 20 for the start of the Utah Tech Invite. Dive will return to action on November 20 for the Trojan Diving Invite, hosted by USC.
