Kate Douglass: “Maybe I’ll start swimming the 200 IM again”

2022 FINA SHORT COURSE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Kate Douglass has swum 3 races in Melbourne and won 3 medals so far. Individually, she scored gold in the 200 IM with an American record, while for Team USA she also contributed to a silver (and American record) in the 400 free relay last night and gold (and a new world record) as the butterflied for the mixed 4×50 medley relay. Douglass takes us through her race strategy in the 200 IM as well as how she manages all of her different events throughout a competition like this.

Honestly her and Alex can literally exchange events at NCAA’s (2 BR and 2IM) and they both probably would still break the AR. That’s how versatile they both are.

Kate Douglass is too talented to swim only one individual event (LCM).

Furthermore, there is no conflict in schedule between the W 200 IM (Days 1 & 2) and the W 200 BR (Days 5 & 6) at the FINA World Aquatics Championships.

Hopefully we’ll get to see her swim a 100 IM SCM in the future. It’s a shame she’s not in the 100 IM in this met simply for lack of a 100 IM SCM qualifying time. Perhaps the NCAA needs to add that event to the NCAA lineup.

Fantastic swimmer with a beautiful attitude: she looks really spontaneous. For instance during the anthem’s execution in the medal cerimony of 200 mixed medley relay, she was concentrated on the Usa flag (not on the camera).
