Olympic Cascade Aquatics (OCA) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Coach/Co head coach. OCA is a coach owned USA Swimming program located in the Northeast suburbs of Seattle, Washington on Mercer Island.  OCA’s is very competitive in the local PNS meets along with regional meets such as, Senior Sectionals and Futures Championships. OCA is building for long term success and is looking for the right coach to join the team and serve as a foundation for the team’s bright future.

OCA was established in 2009 and has seen explosive growth and competitive success.  The team has 180 current swimmers and in 2022 the team achieved top 5 finishes as LSC and Regional Championships, as well as a current top 100 national ranking in USA Swimming’s virtual club rankings. OCA has strong facility relationships training at the four pools that they use. OCA also has an aquatics management business that  manages Mary Wayte pool on Mercer Island. OCA has developed a strong swim school out of this location. The aquatics management portion of the business is an integral part of OCA overall success.

OCA is a collaborative team coaching environment.  The principal philosophies throughout the program are long term athlete development, technical excellence, IM focused training with consistent daily competition.  The program is associated with a non-profit booster group/foundation.  The Senior coach will report directly to the Head Coach. Duties include:

  • Coaching the top 2 senior groups 22-24 hours a week on deck. On occasion work with other groups and coaches as needed.
  • The overall intent is to take on many of the roles from the head coach and become a Co-head coach.
  • Attend all appropriate meets for these groups from local to national level.
  • Create appropriate training programs, and periodically evaluate and ensure that progress towards goals is made.
  • Develop, design, and implement a coaching program that ensures consistent standards across the entire team, with emphasis on stroke technique, physical conditioning, and competitive success.
  • Work with dryland coach to maximize full benefit of program.
  • Help each swimmer develop short and long-range goals and motivate them to reach their goals
  • Provide a time and/or opportunity for communication with parents and swimmers regarding personal goals.
  • Respond to swimmers/parents/head coaches’ emails in a timely manner.
  • Work with head coach to develop an appropriate competition calendar to maximize events.
  • Work with the head coach on schedules and training times for all groups.
  • Assist swimmers in researching and understanding potential collegiate swimming opportunities; and provide individualized written and/or verbal recommendations as requested and appropriate.
  • Provide coach input and content to club communications as needed. Communicate to head coach changes that are necessary to the schedule.
  • Promote and maintain positive club morale and maintain club discipline.
  • Strive to maximize the potential and development of each swimmer in a supportive atmosphere.
  • Candidates should be looking for long term coaching home and multi-year commitment to program is desired.
  • Other duties as needed to enhance OCA assigned by head coach.
  • Work with the Aquatics management side of the business so that the swim school continues to feed the competitive team.

Current USA Swimming coach certification in good standing is required.  ASCA certification is desired, but not required.  The candidate should be familiar with Hy-Tek Meet Manager Software, TeamUnify, and possess good computer skills. This is a full-time professional coaching position with some weekends and holiday time expected.  Salary range is $68,000- $75,000 depending upon experience. Performance bonuses paid for achieving certain time standards. Opportunities for additional income exist and can be discussed.
