Scottsdale Aquatic Club (SAC) is seeking a CEO & Head Coach.  SAC is looking for an energetic and team-driven head coach to join our vibrant club and lead our entire swim program from age groupers to national level swimmers, direct our wet & dry-side programming, as well as build and mentor a team of high caliber coaches and swimmers.

SAC as a member of USA Swimming, Inc., is a year-round, competitive swim team offering high quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities. As a club, we are dedicated to giving our swimmers the best opportunity to achieve their fullest potential and offer swimming from a pre-competition level to the highest level of Olympic competition.  Our goal is to provide each and every member the best environment to improve their swimming skills and achieve success. SAC has been incorporated since 1964 and is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization under the authority of a Board of Directors.  SAC’s success is driven through our Mission Statement: We are Scottsdale Aquatic Club. As a TEAM, we develop champions in the pool and in life by creating a positive environment that inspires the dreams of swimmers at all competitive levels.

Located in beautiful, Scottsdale, Arizona, SAC has over 500 USA Swimming registered swimmers who train at multiple city-owned sites offering both 50m and 25yd pool options.  The facilities are equipped for dry-land and aquatic-based activities including updated equipment and other competitive accessories to enable the highest levels of training available.  SAC swimmers compete in meets that are held locally, within Arizona, Regionally, Nationally and Internationally. We partner with the City of Scottsdale, and most SAC practices are conducted at Cactus Pool, located at the corner of North Scottsdale Road and Cactus Road.

The Head Coach will be responsible for and direct all levels of the programming and manage the staff. The Head Coach is expected to develop, cultivate, and enhance a culture, philosophy, and vision aligned with the SAC Mission Statement including an emphasis on excellence, goal setting, development, support, and teamwork. This position is a full-time position with competitive salary, benefits, and professional growth opportunities. Requirements include:

  • Education & Certification
    • Bachelor’s Degree and prior collegiate swimmer strongly preferred
    • Current Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid
    • Current USA Swimming Coach
  • Experience
    • Minimum 5 years successful previous experience as Head Coach or relevant Assistant Coach experience
    • Effective at leading and establishing a highly successful competitive swim program of 300+ swimmers
  • Leadership & Mentoring
    • Experience managing and mentoring/developing coaching staff
    • Ability to recruit and retain highly qualified and effective coaching staff
    • Set expectations and team objectives leading the team to USA Swimming Gold Medal status
    • Develop and establish a positive, progressive, and winning team-wide culture
    • Provide guidance and support to athletes during the college recruiting process
  • Managing Stakeholder Relationships
    • Collaborate & maintain strong relationship with City of Scottsdale Parks & Recreation staff and directors, local high school swimming programs, Arizona Swimming, and USA Swimming
    • Establish and maintain regular and timely communications with swimmers, parents, coach and board members, including conducting weekly staff meetings
    • Proficient in fostering productive working relationships with other coaches and Board Members and be able to encourage creativity and contribution from others
    • Develop referral relationships with learn to swim programs, local schools, and other parents
    • Must be able to attend Board meetings and weekend travel for events/meets
  • Operational Skills
    • Ability to manage, lead, and coordinate multiple sites and programming
    • Develop and oversee training programs for all age groups
    • Plan seasonal and yearly competition schedule for all groups
    • Develop workouts, schedules, and criteria for advancement through collaboration with coaching staff
    • Strong leadership, communication, verbal, and written skills
    • Ability to successfully develop, manage and grow the annual budget
    • Expand the business of Scottsdale Aquatic Club both in team size and revenue
  • Administrative & Miscellaneous
    • Protect confidential information and adheres to policies outlined by USA Swimming and Safe Sport
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Team Unify, and Hy-Tek Management Software
