Job Description:





The Folsom Sea Otters (FSO) is a member of the Suburban Swim League. We aim to provide a team oriented, positive, learning environment where each swimmer can achieve his or her potential by developing and refining skills in the sport of competitive swimming.  As a team, we strive to ensure a quality recreational/competitive swim program with high regard for developing good sportsmanship, character, technique, and overall health.

The Folsom Sea Otters is a summer, recreational program with swimmers from ages 5 to 18 and all ranges of ability.  Our team typically is between 250 and 300 athletes who compete in weekly dual meets and a League Championship meet to conclude the competitive season.

Our 2018 season begins in April 2018 and ends the last weekend of July 2018.


Head Coach shall attend all practices and meets (unless otherwise negotiated with FSO President/Coach Coordinator); Participate in seeding sessions; Teach technique to swimmers using methods prescribed by off-season planning; Provide leadership and instruction to swimmers in the four swim strokes and proper technique for turns, starts, and relays; Attend meetings conducted by the FSO Board and Coach Coordinator for the purpose of swim team operation; During swim meets, will be expected to engage with the swimmers, watching their races, providing pre-race encouragement and post-race consultation; Motivate and improve swimmer participation in practice and meets; Teach and promote team sportsmanship among swimmers; Present the swimmer development plan for each season; Participate in planning practices outside of core practice hours identified; Participate in team sponsored activities (Orientation Day, Water Safety Check, Laps Challenge, Picture Day, Carbo Night, and Awards Night); Must abide by all SSL league regulations.

Time Commitment:

Position may begin with season practice planning and coach meetings between start of hire and beginning of swim season.  The regular season schedule begins in April 2018.


April 2018 – May 2018 Monday through Friday 3:45 PM – 9:00 PM
May 2018 – July 2018 Monday through Friday 9:00 AM – 12:45 PM
Monday through Thursday 7:15 PM – 9:15 PM
Dual Meets (7) – schedule TBD


Saturday Meets 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM


SSL Championships July, Friday through Sunday (Times/Dates TBD)


Folsom, California – Team pool is located at the Folsom Aquatic Center, 1200 Riley, Folsom, CA 95630


Applicants should have a minimum one year of swim coaching experience at the recreational level and a personal competitive swimming history is a plus.  Additionally, strong knowledge of stroke fundamentals, excellent communication skills, and good organizational skills are a must.  Preference will be given to those with experience in athlete development, team management skills and USA coaching certification.  We desire candidates who will be dedicated and committed to attending all practices and meets through the end of our competitive season.

Condition of Employment:

Successful candidates must pass a background check, including fingerprinting, and provide current certifications in CPR and First Aid.  Additional training may be required upon acceptance of employment.


Salary will be discussed and offered upon evaluation of the applicant’s availability, experience, and ability to perform as the Head Coach throughout the season.
