Job Description:


Ocean Pines Swim Team is seeking an outstanding, experienced head coach to join a vibrant coaching and training environment in Ocean Pines, MD. Candidates must demonstrate history of successful coaching experience at multiple levels, a passion for the sport, and the ability to communicate broadly within the club.  Additional the team is seeking a head coach who will positively represent the club locally, regionally, and nationally. It is expected that the successful candidate will continue to grow and advance the club, fostering an environment that develops all levels of swimming. The team is in its fourth year of MD USA swimming. Over 75 swimmers comprise the year-round club.  In the summer, the team surges to over 120 swimmers. Ocean Pines is located in Worcester County, MD.  It neighbors Berlin and Ocean City. We are an ideal location with many beaches within a 10 minute drive.   The ideal candidate will be able to start February/March of 2018. This will allow the new coach time to work with the current coach.

This is a salaried, part-time position based on the candidate’s experience.  Various expenses related to USA certifications, background checks, etc. will be paid for by the team.  Hotels for travel are covered by the team.   The team also offers many opportunities for coach growth and development, including ASCA and ISCA clinics, traveling to high level meets, and training trips.


Create a positive team environment that fosters learning and fun

Work with facilities to create meet schedules annually, as well as practice group schedules

Develop and improve technical and physical skills of swimming in each participant

Create and implement dryland training program

Plan and lead daily practices for assigned groups

Educate swimmers regarding safe practices and safety hazards

Ensure swimmers adhere to pool rules and enforce regulations

Work with facilities to create attendance and discipline policies for swimmers and keep records of attendance

Establish and maintain communication with parents and swimmers

Organize swim meets and travel to away meets

Supervise assistant coaches and other instructors assigned to swim team programs

Responsible for managing the performance and professional development of assistant coaches

Follow emergency action plan and procedures established in the event of an emergency

Assume responsibility for the care and maintenance of the swim team equipment

Develop and implement the latest and most effective training plans in stroke technique, training, dry land progressions, and taper strategies for a range of swimmer ages and abilities

Provides active involvement in the recruitment, development and progression of swimmers in all age groups to grow and maintain team membership

Works with swimmers and parents in determining appropriate goals and fosters in swimmers important attitudes and skills such as discipline, goal setting, time management and healthy habits that will benefit them throughout life


Strong backgrounds in competitive swimming with a minimum of five years swim coaching experience

A reliable self-starter who displays energy and positive motivation to swimmers

Well-versed in Team Unify and Meet Manager

Bachelor degree preferred

ASCA level 3 is preferred

Passion and enthusiasm for competitive swimming and a clearly demonstrated desire to excel and grow professionally with a vision for developing the membership of OPST swimming

Ability to connect our senior swimmers with universities and colleges and assist families facilitating their child’s goal of swimming post-secondary
