Location: 120 Auto Drive, Prince Frederick, MD, USA

The head coach is expected to be a career coach (ASCA Level 3 or higher preferred, but all levels are strongly encouraged to apply), manage the team operations, supervise assistant and junior coaches, communicate well with all coaches, athletes & parents, and be the “face of the program” to the Calvert County community. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

As minimum, the Head Coach is responsible to: 

  • Oversight of all swim operations, including regulatory compliance, safety, discipline, ensuring an effective – efficient swim staff. 
  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs across all team/group levels tailored to the needs and abilities of each practice group, focusing on skill development, stroke progression, tactical knowledge, and physical fitness. Provide personalized coaching and feedback to individual athletes to help them achieve their maximum potential. The position will require working weeknight practices and some weekend practices/meets with participation in meets at a local, regional, state, and national levels.  
  • Management of team and supervision of two full time, salary assistant coaches and hourly coaching staff, including coach mentorship, training and development, oversight, and standards. 
  • Directly coach swimmers in the Senior and Junior Levels and other swimmers  
  • Attend Board meetings and provide monthly progress reports regarding athlete performance, financial, communication, and staffing statuses. 
  •  Contribute along with the Board in the development of the strategic plan and mission.   
  • Assist the Board of Directors with the development and implementation of the annual budget.  Operate and manage club activities within the parameters of the budget. Review and obtain Board approval for any required changes to budget. 
  • Plan, participate, promote and engage in team community events, awards, team 
  • Plan team practice schedules and meet schedules, including team and coach travel, meet entry assignments, and other meet administrative duties. Propose the competition calendar for the short course, long course, and championship seasons.  
  • Together with coaching staff and volunteer parents, act as the Meet Entry Coordinator for CAC hosted swim meets. 
  • Coordinate training schedules, group placement and advancement guidelines 
  • Maintain regular and efficient communication with swimmers, parents, and the board to provide updates on team activities, schedules, sport-specific education, and performance. Communication with the club via email, newsletter, office hours and athlete/ parent meetings when required/requested.Work with the local high school coaches and summer league coaches to recruit new athletes for future growth. 
  • Participate in the local swim committees (LSC) of USA Swimming 
  • Assist with additional practices, fundraisers, team social events  
  • Assist with marketing  
  • Enforce rules and regulations of MD LSC and USA Swimming 
  • Other tasks assigned by the Board

Minimum Qualifications 

 

  • Current USA Swimming coach member in good standing, including lifeguard, first aid and all USA Swimming coach courses and certifications 
  • 4 year college degree or ASCA Level 3 Certification or higher 
  • Proven coaching experience 5 or more years and proven success with both developmental and elite swimmers in technique, race strategy, age appropriate dryland training and swim training methodologies.  
  • Proficient in use of Hy-Tek software, Colorado Timing Systems, and TeamUnify platforms, MicrosoftOffice (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint – or equivalent) and Gmail 
  • All appropriate & valid licenses/Certifications/Registrations for USA Swimming  
  • Required to maintain USA Swimming coach certification, including first aid and life-saving requirements 
  • Must pass USA Swimming and CAC background check and drug test requirements 
  • Legal authority to work in the USA 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • 5 years + experience as Head Coach or Head Assistant Coach at the Club Level 
  • Experience as a competitive swimmer, preferably at a collegiate level 
  • Certification as a Meet Entries Director by USA Swimming. 
  • Experience with swim meet planning, management and execution
