Job Description:
The Topeka Swim Club is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic coach who is eager to play an intricate role in continuing progress and development of our age group athletes. This coach should be excited to learn from the Head Coach while taking ownership and collaborating to create plans that develop their groups technique and training progression. This individual will be in a management position overseeing the daily operations of the Age group program, as well as helping the learn to swim adult program and coaching some of the master’s swim practices with the Head Coach.
We want to put a coach in a position to be successful while creating the technical foundation the rest of our program will be built on. This will be a key position within the program, with future opportunities for continuing education and further leadership positions. This individual will work closely with the Head Coach to help drive and develop the vision of the program.
Background: Topeka Swimming Association operated at the Hummer Sports Park state-of-the-art sports complex makes hosting swimming events easy and convenient. The Capitol Federal Natatorium is an Olympic-sized 50-meter by 25-yard swimming pool complete with a four-lane “warm-up and cool-down” pool, a crash area, multi-purpose room, lobby, concession stand, public locker rooms, and a separate competitive scoring and timing room that allows for dual scoring if two competitive pools are set up.

General Accountabilities:
- Establish and maintain relationships and open communications with swimmers and parents.
- Support the coaching philosophy and directions of the club as established by the Head Coach.
- Management and running of daily practices, while supporting the coaching philosophy and directions of the club as established by the Head Coach.
- Assist and observe other training groups as needed.
- With the guidance of the Head Coach, oversee and manage the age group coaching staff.
- With the guidance of the Head Coach, oversee development and progression of the Age Group Program.
- Strategic planning for Topeka Swimming Association in conjunction with the Head Coach and the Board of Directors
- Run evaluation nights and focus on member recruitment to bring more members to the program.
- Actively assist in the marketing of the Topeka Swimming Association, including, but not limited to direct involvement with social media platforms.
- This individual is responsible for all meet entries and communications for meets with the age group program.
- Weekly meetings with the Head Coach to outline developmental progressions, practice sessions, meet schedules, as well as to discuss problems and opportunities. These meetings should also ensure that the management of the group and program remains united with one direction.
- Create a positive team atmosphere where swimmers learn the values of the community through Hard Work, Unity, and Respect.
- Drives team spirit with planning and executing team building activities through collaboration with the Head Coach and the Board of Directors
- Ensuring consistency throughout the entire program with progressive age-group development
- Even-handed and fair treatment of all athletes, regardless of ability or seniority level
Other Opportunities:
- Ability to work with the National program, as long as this does not interfere with the Age Group Program schedule.
- Ability to travel with the National Team on the annual training trip as coaches’ education to learn from other programs and coaches in the nation.
- Ability to provide private swim lessons for extra financial income.
Qualifications:
- College Degree (Preferred)
- Competitive Swimming Experience (Required)
- An Eagerness to Learn and Grow as a Coach (Required)
- Coaching Experience at the Age Group and/or Senior Level (Required)
- Candidates must possess integrity, strong communication skills, and a passion for helping swimmers maximize their potential.
- Individuals must have strong administrative skills, management skills, and be very proficient with using Team Unify.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability in fostering teamwork.
- Candidates must have a strong understanding of the proper technique and training pathways that develop a swimmer from the 8 and underage group to a senior level swimmer.
- Candidates must have experience and/or eagerness to utilize technology in the daily workouts and across the program.
- Individuals must have a general understanding on proper dryland programs for age group athletes.
- Individuals must be highly organized with training plans and tracking data across the program.
- Candidate needs to have strong presentation skills for group meetings, staff meetings, and parent presentations.
- Candidates must have strong management skills and take a levelheaded approach to a wide array of scenarios that may come about while in a Head Coaching position.
- Approachable, interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with all levels of staff, athletes, parents, Board of Directors, and outside personnel.
Salary:
Annual salary will be $40,000, this position will include health benefits, approved education remuneration and swim travel expenses.
