Canyons Aquatic Club’s Head Age Group Coach (HAGC) must have a skill set that creates a learning environment in which children want to participate and fosters an engaging climate blended with excitement and knowledge. Building a complete athlete from a novice level is more than teaching correct stroke mechanics and establishing elite fundamental skills. The ideal candidate will help children ignite their passion for swimming in a systematic and proven method.
The HAGC must oversee staff, conduct evaluations, and ensure all staff comply with Club rules and regulations. Coaching at swim meets and practice schedules are required. Helping to write and enforce group expectations and advancement policies is an essential aspect of this position. Strong leadership and communication skills are a necessity.
This is a full time exempt management position.
Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
  • Reports to Head Coach (HC) for responsibilities & duties
  • Work closely with HC on swim team development, goals, and growth
  • Ensure personal requirements and certifications are compliant with USA Swimming
  • Understands and follows all policies in CANY Employee Handbook
Management
  • Educate and reinforce coaches on team vision and ensure they are living values and behaviors
  • Work with HC to assign coaches to meets based on meet entries
  • Conduct at least one meeting a month with the coaching staff
  • Assist with education and training of coaches with curriculum, group expectations, and technique philosophies
  • Work closely with the HC to ensure coaches have daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly training cycles.
Coaching Management
  • Be willing to coach any group as needed
  • Ensure execution of the curriculum and expectations for all age group programming
  • Ensure swimmers are living team values and behaviors
  • In collaboration with the HC, devise seasonal, weekly, and daily training/practice plans
  • Send weekly emails with news, schedule, and updates
  • Complete entries for assigned groups before the deadline on TeamUnify
  • Maintain daily attendance using the OnDeck App
Administration
  • Work with HC to plan long-term athlete development from novice to Senior
  • Create the meet schedule for Age Group programming
  • Finalize, review, and submits entries for meets on the meet schedule
  • Communicating move-up procedures to swimmers and parents
  • Work with HC and monitor move-ups and roster numbers
  • Manage roster size and roster minimums/maximums with move ups
  • Ensure coaches maintain daily attendance records for assigned groups
  • Attend all CANY training, staff meetings, and committee meetings
  • Participate in Coastal Committee Section meetings
  • Complete annual self-evaluation
Communication
  • Timely communication to all coaching staff, office staff, Board of Directors, and members of CANY
  • Have open communication with the swimmers and parents
  • Schedule and oversee one annual group parent meeting
Desirable Qualifications
  • At least ten years of coaching experience with competitive swimming
  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
