Come join a growing team and lead our Y-Spartaquatics Swim Club (YSSC)! In recent years, YSSC has seen exceptional growth both in and out of the water. As a team, our successes include winning the 2023 Men’s YMCA Long Course National Championship, the 2021 Women’s YMCA Short Course National Championship, and the South Carolina Short Course Senior State Championships from 2020-2024. In addition, we have seen dozens of swimmers continue in their swimming careers through scholarships at top universities all across the country. Our YSSC is a registered USA Swim and National YMCA Swim team that competes in local, state, and national level swim meets.
The Head Age Group Coach delivers the highest quality swim team by assisting the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach in planning and development of the Age Group program that follows the standards set forth by the YMCA of the USA.
Experience – Four or more years of competitive swimming coaching experience, YMCA experience a plus, with a background in supervising and developing swimmers, coaches, and volunteers. Must be safe sport certified.
Essential Functions:
- Supports the mission of the YMCA through program, staff, and volunteer development and leadership.
- Ensures all certifications are up to date for staff.
- Monitors program registrations and program retention to ensure quality programming is being implemented and promoted throughout the entire YSSC program.
- Organizes the year-round meet calendar and ensures all details related to registration is properly coordinated for each meet.
- Engages with other aquatics staff to ensure proper coordination is in place for connecting swimmers from YMCA swim lessons to placement on swim team with the appropriate timing.
- Ensures a safe and supportive environment exists for all participants, coaches, and volunteers.
- Provide parent/swimmer communication through phone, email, and website. Regular updates will be provided on a regular basis.
- Assist in all aspects of meet management. Including entries, setup, and breakdown.
- Continue to make YSSC’s social media presence the benchmark for SC Swimming
- Attend all swim team staff meetings and training opportunities as requested.
- Document daily attendance and training plans.
- Work directly with the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach to plan and program the Competitive Swim Team.
- Lead Coach for at least 2 practice groups.
- Manage all aspects of the YSSC Age Group Program.
- Directly supervise Head Developmental Coach and Age Group Coaching Staff.
- Provide mentoring and professional development opportunities to the Head Developmental Coach and Age Group Coaching Staff.
- Assist the Associate Head Coach with annual community outreach with local summer league teams. Including swimming clinics and meet visits.
- Compile YSSC Meet Entries
- Develop and track swimmer recognition programs

- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
