Open Position: Full Time Swim Coach

Description: The Issaquah Swim Team (IST) is searching for an energetic full-time coach to join us in developing our athletes and growing our program while teaching and modeling our core values of being swimmer centric, supporting life-long learning, having passionate coaches, following a philosophy of growth, and building community. As a coach, you could expect to work with senior, age-group, and also developmental athletes.

About IST: Issaquah Swim Team is a 300+ member year-round competitive swim team operating out of several facilities in the greater Issaquah, WA area. Our mission is to develop accomplished athletes and well-rounded individuals through competitive swimming. We have passionate coaches who are swimmer-centric, promote life-long learning through a philosophy of growth, and seek to actively participate in our larger community. IST holds aquatic practices at several local pool facilities and also runs our own dryland program at an IST operated facility staffed with strength and conditioning trainers and coaches. Responsibilities: The full time coach will:

  • Create and conduct workouts for senior, age group, and/or developmental athletes
  • Attend all assigned swim meets (approximately 1-2 weekends per month)
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Assist or substitute for other coaches as directed
  • Effectively teach strokes, starts, and turns
  • Help athletes to develop and achieve their highest personal and athletic potentials
  • Motivate training groups with goals, rewards, fun and team spirit activities
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned by the Head Coach
  • Assist in team administration duties as directed by the Head Coach

Qualifications: Applicants must have a competitive swimming background, possess (or be willing and able to obtain) current certifications in Lifeguarding/1st Aid and CPR/AED, and be able to pass a preemployment background check. Additional training through USA Swimming may be necessary. The ideal candidate has:

  • At least 2 years experience as a senior, age group or development coach of a competitive swim team
  • Up-to-date understanding of latest coaching techniques through research and continuing education through USA Swimming or ASCA
  • Ability and desire to work with parents as part of swimmer development
  • ASCA level 2 or higher
  • Bachelor’s degree and personal experience in competitive swimming at the college level
  • Track record of swimmer retention and recruitment
  • Track record of swimmer development at the national level
  • Experience with Team Unify and Hy-Tek
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as demonstrated ability to foster teamwork

Compensation: Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience. Employee will be eligible for twice yearly bonuses and healthcare benefits.
