POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Aquatics coordinates all aspects of SUNY Maritime College’s Aquatic facility. The Assistant Men’s & Women’s Swimming Coach will assist in coordinating all aspects of SUNY Maritime College Men’s & Women’s Swimming activities including coaching, recruiting, organizing and planning both practice and competition strategies, scheduling, staffing, budgeting, fundraising, team management and administration. This position will directly report to the Director of Athletics.

 

POSITION DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Director of Aquatics Specific Duties and Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Coordinates and implements aquatics program to meet the needs of both campus and local community maximizing programming and revenue generating potential of the aquatic facility
  • Responsible for the Pool Health and Safety Plan
  • Coordinates and manages a program of special events for the aquatics facility such as swimming competitions, intramurals, rentals etc
  • Organizes and coordinates a schedule for daily use of the aquatics facility
  • Coordinates and manages a comprehensive program of facility and water sanitation operations, equipment repair and preventative maintenance
  • Works with various departments on campus to coordinate the ordering and storage of necessary equipment for scheduled certification classes, intramurals or PE programs
  • Selects, trains and supervises the aquatics facility staff including lifeguards, aquatics instructors and specialty staff
  • Engages in professional development opportunities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics

 

Head Men’s & Women’s Swimming Coach Specific Duties and Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Adhere to and enforce all SUNY Maritime departmental/College policies and procedures as well as rules and regulations of governing bodies and associations
  • Oversee the recruitment of student-athletes within defined departmental strategies acceptable to standard Maritime College entrance requirements and within departmental resources designed specifically to promote timely graduation and effective use of athletic eligibility
  • Support a positive student-athlete experience, which is reflected by both high retention and graduation rates among recruited student-athletes
  • Provide necessary instruction for the teaching of fundamentals, game rules, and strategies relative to each sport
  • Assist in scheduling and conducting regular practice sessions during traditional and non-traditional segments of the year
  • Maintain team equipment inventory
  • Monitor and support student-athlete academic progress
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor to the student community

 

Requirements:

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent interpersonal, teaching and communication skills are essential
  • Knowledge of water filtration and sanitation
  • Must possess CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding (Red Cross) certificates
  • Must possess a NYC Board of Health Swimming Pool Operation Technology certificate
  • Demonstrated swimming and diving coaching experience
  • Ability to recruit student athletes, develop successful programs and maintain operations (budget, equipment ordering, NCAA eligibility, game management, etc.)
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License. Must have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violation
  • Exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations with specific knowledge of Division III rules

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • NCAA Division III swimming and/or coaching experience as well as aquatic site management experience

 

Additional Information:

 

Classification/Salary Range: The Director of Aquatics/Head Swimming and Diving Coach is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $50,150 – $57,500 annually, with an outstanding benefits package (for more information please see the Full Time UUP Benefits Summary). Special Notes: This is a full-time calendar year appointment UUP Position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
