YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The IU Indianapolis Jaguars opened their two-day weekend at Youngstown State with a strong start, claiming victories on both the women’s and men’s side.
They started the match off with wins in the 400 medley relays. The women’s squad touched first with a time of 3:48.10, while the men followed with a winning effort of 3:11.50 to set the tone early for the Jaguars.
IU Indy continued its success in the pool with standout performances in individual events. On the women’s side, Bella Tufts captured first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.91, while Aubrey Hollis delivered a sweep of the backstroke events, winning the 100 back in 55.20 and the 200 back in 2:00.78. Luca McGee also impressed in the sprint freestyle races, earning victories in both the 50 free (23.96) and the 100 free (51.82).
The Jaguars were equally dominant in breaststroke events. Vicky Surdyka led the women with a win in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 1:03.86, while Sadie Leininger secured first place in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.37. On the men’s side, Logan Kelly swept the breaststroke races, winning the 100 breast in 53.04 and the 200 breast in 1:54.28.
In distance and backstroke events for the men, IU Indy continued to rack up wins. Michael Esdon claimed first place in the 1650 free with a time of 15:49.56, while Grayson Tidwell won the 100 back in 49.64. Jack Gallob added another victory for the Jaguars by taking the 200 back in 1:48.74, and Nathan Rariden closed out the swimming wins with a first-place finish in the 500 free at 4:30.85.
The Jaguars also dominated on the diving boards. Alaina Heyde earned the top spot in the women’s 3-meter dive with a score of 248.48, while Blake Vanderjeugdt led the men’s 1-meter competition, posting a winning score of 289.43 to round out a successful day for IU Indianapolis.

Youngstown, Ohio – The Youngstown State Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving programs battled IU Indianapolis in Day 1 of a two-day dual inside Beeghly Natatorium on Friday afternoon.
Olivia Sweetman had a very impressive performance in the women’s 1650 free, winning with a time of 17:18.30, which was over one minute faster than the second-place time. She also finished first in the 500 free with a time of 5:00.69, four seconds quicker than the second place time.
Quinn Cynor broke his own pool record in the men’s 200 free, winning with a time of 1:35.76. Olivia Sweetman finished runner-up in the women’s 200 free with a time of 1:52.40. She was followed by Kate Hildebrand, who placed third with a time of 1:57.89.
Cynor also won the men’s 100 free with a time of 44.57, almost two full seconds quicker than the second place time. Chloe Moore finished third in the women’s 100 free as she clocked a time of 53.34.
The Penguins swept victories in the 200 fly, as Orla Maccines won the women’s section with a time of 2:06.57 and Valer Kennedy won the men’s race with a time of 1:49.06. Also performing well was Allison Ramirez Romero, who finished third for the women with a time of 2:08.06.
Jacob Gramer won the men’s 50 free with a time of 20.64. Chloe Moore finished third for YSU in the women’s 50 free with a time of 24.44.
Hannah Murray won the women’s 200 IM with a time of 2:07.11. Jameson Cooke finished third in the men’s 200 IM, clocking a time of 1:55.73.
The men’s 400-free relay just edged out IU Indy for the victory as Quinn Cynor, Jacob Gramer, Lorenz Beck, and Pablo Santos combined for a time of 2:59.90, less than one second quicker than the second place time. The women’s 400-free relay team of Orla Maccines, Chloe Moore, Olivia Sweetman, and Madelyn Mahoney finished second with a time of 3:32.78.
The men’s 400-meldey relay team of Quinn Cynor, James Slessor, Lorenz Beck, and Jacob Gramer placed second with a time of 3:14.18. The women’s 400-medley relay squad of Chloe Moore, Hannah Murray, Orla Maccines, and Madelyn Mahoney finished third with a time of 3:51.56.
Hannah Murray finished second in the women’s 100 breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:04.87. In the men’s section of the event, James Slessor led YSU with a second-place finish, swimming a time of 55.35, while Dominic Panozzo finished third with a time of 55.85.
Murray also placed second in the women’s 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.40, whole Dominic Panozzo finished third in the men’s 200 breaststroke as he clocked a time of 2:05.06.
The Penguin men finished second and third in the 100 backstroke, as Elliot Elmore was runner-up with a time of 49.74, and Pablo Santos was third with a time of 49.97.
Santos also finished second in the men’s 200 backstroke with a time of 1:49.65. Lara Lilic finished third in the women’s 200 backstroke as she swam a time of 2:08.16.
Orla Maccines finished as the runner-up in the women’s 100 butterfly as she swam a time of 57.14.
Natalie Weissman placed third in the women’s three-meter diving event as she scored 225.53. Zachary Lao finished third in the men’s one-meter dive as he scored 272.10.
The IU Indianapolis women won by a score of 187-92, while the Jaguars men won by a score of 184-97.
