Gold Team Edges Black In Oakland’s Annual Intrasquad Meet

Oakland Intrasquad Meet

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The men’s and women’s Gold team earned the win in this year’s annual Black and Gold intrasquad scrimmage after a close back-and-forth battledefeating the black squad, 45-43 on both the men’s and women’s side.

Prior to the meet, Head Coach Pete Hovland recognized senior Susan LaGrand with an NCAA All-American plaque and banner honoring her accomplishments from a season ago.

Madelyn Cislo and Philip DeJonge were also awarded with a plaque recognizing them as the recipients of the Thomas D. Allen Memorial Scholarship which honors a student-athlete who represents leadership, scholarship, sportsmanship and friendship.

It was a great opening night for the Golden Grizzlies both the newcomers and returners posted impressive times across the board.

The women’s 400 medley relay team od LaGrand, Logan BelangerAjete Eggers and Ronja Riihinen took the top spot, touching the wall in 3:46.76. On the men’s side, the veterans in Marko KhotynetskyiRyan GehebDanylo Hrebelnyi and Christian Bart paced the race with a 3:17.10 first place finish.

Freshman Jordyn Shipps had a solid showing for the Gold squad, tallying three first place finishes in the 200 free (1:50.44), 100 free (50.92) and the mixed 400 free relay (3:12.46).

Rudy Aguilar is back this season competing for the Golden Grizzlies and came back in a big way with three top times in the 200 free (1:38.10), 200 fly and the mixed 400 free relay (3:12.46).

The Golden Grizzlies kick off regular season action against the University of Michigan Saturday, Oct. 9 at noon in Ann Arbor.
