FRESNO, Calif. — Dealing with sickness to five key swimmers, the undermanned Aggies came up short against a strong Fresno State squad on Saturday afternoon. The loss moves UC Davis to 6-2 on the year with one more meet remaining in the regular season.

“We ran into a tough Fresno team today but we had many season best times along with a few lifetime bests which is exciting and puts us in a good spot for senior day next Saturday against UOP,” Coach Matt Macedo said. “We had some big swims from Elle MotekaitisAnagha Kondury, Sophi Mackay and Naomi Boegholm and coach Phil was pleased with the divers’ execution and the way they supported each other.”

The Bulldogs opened the meet strong taking two of the top three spots in the 200 medley relay and monopolizing the podium in the 1000 yard freestyle.

The Aggies responded with a top three sweep in the 200 free, with Motekaitis taking the top spot (1:51.66).

Kondury won the 100 yard backstroke (56.70), but Fresno State won nine of the final twelve events to pull ahead by a comfortable margin.

Boegholm followed up her MPSF Female Athlete of the Week performance last week with a win in the 50 free (23.20) and 100 free (50.38).

UC Davis concluded the meet by winning the 400 free relay (3:25.11). MacKay, Christy DouglasAnna Boyer and Katie McLain made up the winning group.

The Aggies are back at Schaal Aquatics Center next Saturday as they host the University of the Pacific for a Senior Day meet at 12:00 PM.
