Sammie Bosma
Sammie Bosma is a sprinter at Texas A&M. Born in Orlando, Fla., but raised in Marietta, Ga., Bosma attended Lassiter High School and swam club for Stingrays Swimming. Bosma is an NCAA All-American, and has been an important asset to the Aggie relays. She comes from an athletic family – her father was a track & field athlete at the University of Michigan. As a swimmer for Lassiter, Bosma was a 14-time All-American and the 2011 Georgia 5-A State Swimmer of the Year. Bosma just finished up her senior-year eligibility, where she’s a Visualization – Graphic Design student, but she had originally intended to study Ocean Engineering. She received the “most innovative” award for a digital short in her 2D & 3D Animation Studio class. Bosma has worked as a Distributor for AdvoCare and a freelance Graphic Designer for Doctor Up. As a true sprinter, Bosma is talented in nearly every stroke, and claims that her favorite training is sprint sets in the diving well.
Texas A&M
2011-2012
As a freshman Bosma didn’t waste any time making a huge impact. She threw in more than 50 points at her first conference championships, and she finished in the top 6 in all three of her individual events. At the Big 12 Championships she also swam on the 800 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
2012-2013
In her second season as an Aggie Bosma led off the 400 freestyle relay at the NCAA Championships. At the SEC Championships, Bosma scored 40 individual points – she also swam on the 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay that earned an NCAA ‘A’ cut.
2013-2014
Bosma qualified for the NCAA meet as an individual, swimming the 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, swimming personal bests. She added to her All-America accolades when she finished fourth as a member of the 200 freestyle relay and ninth-place 400 freestyle relay.
2014-2015
Bosma is currently in her senior year as an Aggie. At the SEC Championships she came in eighth in the 50 freestyle, 16th in the 100 butterfly and sixth in the 100 freestyle. At the NCAA Championships she came in 12th in the 50 freestyle, 49th in the 100 butterfly and 15th in the 100 freestyle. Bosma anchored every relay she swam on: the fourth-place 200 freestyle, the 200 and 400 medley relays that finished 11th, and the fourth-place 400 freestyle relay.
National Competition
As a high school swimmer at Lassiter, Bosma finished first in the state of Georgia in all four years. She also holds her high school’s records in the 100 backstroke and the 100 freestyle. She qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials – she finished 105th in the 50m freestyle.
