ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Navy swimming and diving teams combined to win 21 events during the Navy Invitational held Saturday afternoon at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis. The field for the meet –– which did not include team scoring –– included the Mids along with American, Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh.
“The in-season portion of the year is now complete as we are looking forward to preparing for championships,” said Navy men’s swimming head coach Bill Roberts. “Despite the dual meet portion of the season being finished, we still have many of our goals for the year still in front of us and will continue to work toward each of those in the coming weeks.”
The women’s team totaled 10 event victories on the day. Diver Mackenzie Kim won both the one and three-meter boards with scores of 288.15 and 313.25, respectively, and Allie Maloney won both the 100 (50.87) and 200 free (1:50.96) races.
Dean Jones was the lone member of the men’s team to win multiple events as he placed first in the 100 fly (48.04) and 500 free (4:28.27). Two of the team’s 11 victories came in the 200 free and 200 medley relay races.
Navy will now set its sights on the Feb. 18-21 Patriot League Championship to be held in Lejeune Hall.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed for the final time at the Navy Invitational before returning to Annapolis for the Patriot League Championships in just 18 days. Senior Isabel McGovern and sophomore Piper Crosby each earned an individual win and were both part of a relay win as well.
Notable Results
- Crosby, McGovern, and sophomores Grace Gilbert and Marin Priddy started the meet strong with a narrow second-place finish in the 200 free relay behind Bucknell. But the quartet’s best result of the afternoon came later in the 200 medley relay, when they took first over Navy by just 0.22 seconds.
- McGovern won the 100 fly in 55.70, not far off of her winning time at the Patriot Invitational in November. She also finished second in a tightly-packed 100 free in 51.58.
- Crosby stepped out of her usual lineup to win the 200 back with a personal best of over five seconds at 2:04.71, a time that ranks 14th all-time at AU.
- Gilbert and Priddy combined for three top-eight finishes, with Priddy finishing eighth in the 100 free, and going a personal best for seventh in the 100 back, while Gilbert took seventh in the 50 free (24.41), giving the Eagles a strong sprint freestyle group heading into PLs.
- Two more high finishes came from senior Veronica Lester and junior Kate Williams, as Lester finished fourth in the 200 fly in 2:11.22, and Williams swam a new personal best of 1:53.99 to get eighth in a competitive 200 free.
- The best individual finishes on the men’s side came from freshman diver Alex Way, who was fifth on the 3-meter with a score of 259.25, and seventh on the 1-meter with a score of 243.70.
- Also on the men’s side, freshman Matias Garcia finished eighth in the 100 back in 52.39.
- Freshman Van Paul was ninth in the 100 breast in 58.25, less than four-tenths of a second off his personal best.
- This was the last swim meet for the careers of Lester and seniors Colin Jue, Kai O’Malley, and Dylan Moulton, marking the end of an incredibly resilient chapter in each of their lives.

LEWISBURG, Pa. –Kelly Byrne picked up a win in the 1,650 freestyle while setting the 10th-fastest time in school history as the women’s swimming and diving teams competed in the Navy Invitational at Lejeune Hall on Saturday.
The Bison won two events and posted 16 top-five finishes on the day. There was no team scoring as American, Lafayette, Navy, Lehigh and Shippensburg competed. Navy will host the Patriot League Championships from February 18-21.
Byrne won the 1,650 free by more than 17 seconds, and her time of 17:00.90 now ranks 10th in school history.
The Bison opened the day with a win in the 200 freestyle relay. Natalia Gajecki, Virginia Hastings, Clara Renner and Kyla Kelly won by less than three-tenths of a second, finishing in 1:34.59.
Tori Castro took second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.40, and Sofia Burns was right behind her in fifth with a time of 2:07.64. Jennifer Bolden took second in the 500 freestyle in 5:02.71. Kelly (5:05.32) and Hanna Klingensmith (5:05.41) took sixth and seventh in the event.
In the 100 backstroke, Hastings (57.59) took fifth and Talia Bugel (57.76) took sixth. Emma Briganti took second in the 200 butterfly, finishing with a time of 2:07.56.
Kennedy DeVeaux finished in third in the 100 freestyle in 51.65. Renner was right behind her with a time of 51.69 finishing in sixth. Tessa Feld took fourth in the 400 IM in 4:35.50.
The Bison took third and fifth in the 200 medley relay. Gajecki, Sam Benzija, Hastings and Castro took third with a time of 1:44.83. Alivia Wainwright, Ava Stallmeyer, Sara Ketron and Renner took fifth in 1:47.46.
Hastings took third in the 100 fly, finishing in 56.52. Sydney Dettmann followed with a second-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.44. DeVeaux also competed in the event, taking sixth in 1:52.85.
Gajecki finished in fourth in the 200 backstroke with her time of 2:05.11, and Renner was right behind her in sixth with a time of 1:08.94. In the 200 breaststroke, Stallmeyer took second in 2:19.54 and Benzija (2:21.40) took fifth.
Natalie Penman took sixth in both diving events. She scored a 228.10 in the one-meter dive and a 234.85 in the three-meter dive. Dea Mielenz took seventh in the three-meter dive with a score of 231.90.
This was Bucknell’s final competition before the Patriot League and ECAC Championships. The Bison have several weeks of preparation before traveling back to Annapolis for the PL Championships from February 18-21.

The Bison opened the day with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Damian Czartoryjski, Colin Smith, Drew Greene and Finn Russell finished with a time of 1:22.70.
Dante Buonadonna and Riley Twiss both posted a top-five finish in the 200 IM. Buonadonna (1:50.85) took third and Twiss (1:53.48) took fifth.
Jason Kellerman took third in the 500 freestyle in 4:34.96. Buonadonna then took sixth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.31. Caleb Kubiak was right behind him with a time of 52.31. Chase Ferguson also competed with a time of 52.98.
James Lombardi posted a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.74. Czartoryjski then took fifth in the 200 butterfly in 1:52.34.
Kellerman (45.65) took fourth in the 100 freestyle and Smith (45.83) took sixth. Alex Crossing (4:03.07), Kubiak (4:04.56) and Braden Beagle (4:06.94) went 2-3-4 in the 400 IM.
The Bison also went 2-3-4 in the 200 medley relay. Shane Wynne, Lombardi, Greene and Smith took second in 1:31.69. Avery Kuhn, Matt Raudabaugh, Drew Davis and Buonadonna took third in 1:33.46. Caleb Hagadorn, William Harpster, Twiss and Finn Lukens took fourth in 1:34.34.
Twiss took fifth in the 100 butterfly in 49.81. Greene (50.29), Czartorysjki (50.55) and Hagadorn (50.61) also competed.
Davis took fourth with a time of 1:42.14 in the 200 freestyle and Wynne was right behind him in fifth with a time of 1:42.86. Kuhn (1:43.55) and Franks (1:43.93) also swam in the event.
Evan Hepburn posted a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:05.04. Raudabaugh and Ferguson both took ninth in the 50 freestyle with times of 22.43.
Connor Thurston took sixth in the one-meter dive, posting a 247.75. Jackson Vinarub took fourth in the three-meter with a 281.45.
This was Bucknell’s final competition before the Patriot League and ECAC Championships. The Bison have several weeks of preparation before traveling back to Annapolis for the PL Championships from February 18-21.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Lafayette swimming and diving traveled to Navy for the Navy Invite on Saturday afternoon, putting up a couple of dominant performances and season-best times.
Senior Isabella Van Ess tied her own Lafayette school record from last season in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.14. Van Ess touched the wall first in the 200 breast and placed third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.94.
Junior Natalie Johnson collected third in the 1650-yard freestyle with a final time of 17:48.72, a personal best performance. Classmate Daisy Decker followed behind in the 1650 free in fourth with a time of 17:56.80. Senior Emma Luttrell snagged fifth in both the 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard IM (2:12.12, 4:41.35).
Junior diver Mia Guster reeled in fourth in the 3-meter dive and fifth in the 1-meter (238.40, 229.05).
For the men, junior Alexander captured the victory in the 100 breast with a season-best performance time of 56.39. Freshman Trevor Olson claimed second in both the 200 and 500 freestyles with season-best times of 1:39.82 and 4:29.47, respectively. Classmate Justin Tucker collected a season-best time of 1:50.78 in the 200 fly for second place.
Freshman Gregory Yukhvid enjoyed a third-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 49.74. Freshman Max Mahler finished fifth in the 100 breast (57.89) and junior Zachary Dickman achieved fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.20). Junior Alexander Zoldan reeled in fifth in the 1650 free, touching at 16:27.08.
Junior diver Landon Orth secured fourth in the 1-meter dive with a score of 265.70 while senior Peter Curtis scored 253.50 for fifth.
“Today was a culmination of a lot of hard work over the last seven months, and seeing so many goals come to fruition is one of the many things that makes this time of year so special,” said Lafayette head coach James Dailey. “Winning events against such incredible competition is always exciting and we will continue to build on that success over the coming weeks.”
“We will miss the seniors that finished their careers today. We couldn’t be more proud of how they represented Lafayette swimming and diving over the last four years,” Dailey continued.
The Maroon and White will travel back to Navy for the Patriot League Championships on Feb. 18-21.

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- Lehigh women’s swimming and diving traveled to Annapolis, Md. to compete at the Navy Invitational on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks faced off against a majority of Patriot League competitors, with the field for the invite consisting of American, Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh, Navy and Shippensburg.
Lehigh won one event at the invite off the back of Eliza Johnson. The first year took the win in the 50-yard freestyle, which was her first time swimming this event collegiately. She swam 23.87. The Mountain Hawks also took second in the event, thanks to fellow first-year Genevieve Cody who swam 23.88. Johnson was also Lehigh’s top finisher in the freestyle at the 200-yard distance. She placed fifth, finishing in 1:52.82. She was one of three top-15 finishers at this distance, as sophomore Claire Coughlin placed 12th with a collegiate best time of 1:54.66, and junior Darrah Shuff finished 15th at 1:55.23.
Shuff and Coughlin also competed in the 500-yard freestyle. Shuff was Lehigh’s top finisher at third, swimming 5:03.15. Coughlin was right behind in fourth, swimming a personal best distance to do so. She touched at 5:04.94, which was twelve seconds better than she has ever swam at the college level. Caitlin Hofmann swam a collegiate best to place in the top ten as well. The senior placed ninth with a time of 5:12.14. Shuff’s best event on the day was in the 1650-yard freestyle. As her first time swimming this distance in college, she placed second overall with a time of 17:17.11.
Sophomore Clara Moschella was the top placing Mountain Hawks in two events. She swam a collegiate best time in the 100-yard freestyle, where she placed 12th in a field of 62 swimmers. She also earned a fourth place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. Moschella’s time of 2:06.94 paced Eliza Johnson’s sixth place finish (2:08.02), as well as a seventh place finish from junior Eliza Meth (2:08.11).
Sophomore Zoe Davies continued her historic season swimming the 100-yard breaststroke. She lowered her own school record down to 1:02.99, earning second place in the process. She was one of three Mountain Hawks to swim new best times and place in the top ten. Senior Caitlin Deitch set a new personal record by 16 hundredths of a second, swimming 1:06.13 and placing fifth. Not far behind was first-year Emma Gyorkos, who’s seventh place finishing time of 1:06.38 was a season’s best.
Deitch and Gyorkos were both Lehigh’s top finishers in other events. In her first collegiate swimming of the 400-yard individual medley, Deitch finished as the runner-up, swimming 4:31.59. Gyorkos finished sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming 2:21.96, another collegiate best time.
First-years Sophie Perry and Bonita Zuo swam collegiate bests while leading Lehigh in backstroke events. Perry placed fourth at 100 yards (57.36), and Zuo earned third in the over 200 (2:04.78).
The diving events included top ten finishes by two different Mountain Hawks. Junior Kate Whitaker placed ninth at the one-meter height, scoring 203.45 points. First-year Jayden Yochai led the way at three meters, scoring 223.20 to place 10th.
Lehigh now sets their sights on the Patriot League Championship. This four day meet will see the Mountain Hawks back in Annapolis February 18-21.

The Mountain Hawks faced off against a majority of Patriot League competitors, with the field for the invite consisting of American, Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh, Navy and Shippensburg.
Jack Deppe led the way with three podium finishes, including two event wins. The sophomore opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard individual medley, swimming 1:48.67. He championed the field that included two Lehigh first-years placing in the top ten. Both swimmers earned collegiate best times, with Andrew Takach placing seventh with a time of 1:54.10, and Spencer Ridge swimming 1:54.63 to place ninth. Deppe and Ridge also found themselves together in the 200-yard breaststroke. Deppe once again got a win in this event, touching in 2:04.75. Just behind was Ridge, who’s time of 2:04.87 was good for second and another new collegiate best time. Lehigh also took fourth in this event, as Carson Morris swam 57.99. Deppe’s remaining podium finish was in the 100-yard butterfly. He placed second in this event, but came away with a new personal best.
Frankie Prekop came away with two events in freestyle events. The sophomore first won the 200-yard freestyle, coming away with a new collegiate best time of 1:39.10. He was one of five toal Mountain Hawks to place in the top ten. Following him were sophomores David Woerner and Will Peatrichelli. Woerner swam a personal best time of 1:41.33 to place third, and Pestrichelli placed sixth with a collegiate best time of 1:43.40. First-years Jack MacMillan placed eighth (1:43.46) and TJ Hayes ninth (1:43.83), both competing in this event for the first time in their college careers. Prekop’s second win came over 50 meters, where he led a trio of Mountain Hawks to top five finishes. He swam 21.04 to lead the way, sophomore Jared Rabadam finished next in third (21.72), and first-year Sam Skibo placed fourth (22.19).
Andrew Takatch earned Lehigh’s remaining win. He swam 4:01.36 in the 400-yard individual medley, which was a collegiate best time for him.
The backstroke events featured three top three finishes for Lehigh across the 100 and 200-yard competitions. Junior Marr McLellen took third over 100 yards, swimming 50.96. Senior Ben Kisker and sophomore Will Moon earned the second and third spots at the 200-yard discipline, with Kisker swimming 1:53.24 to Moon’s personal best time of 1:53.52.
Will Pestrichelli earned a second sixth place finish in the 200-yard butterfly. He touched in 1:52.99, improving his personal best time by just under two seconds. It was first-year Spencer Campbell who was Lehigh’s top finisher, swimming 1:52.10 to place third. Pestrichelli’s best placement was in the 1650-yard freestyle swim. He placed second overall, needing a collegiate best time of 15:58.19 to do so. Right behind him in third was Alfredo Figueroa Sedano, who set a new personal record by swimming 16:00.41.
The remaining events consisted of first-years as Lehigh’s highest placing swimmer, all of whom swam college best times. Jake Greeleaf placed the Mountain Hawks in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming 4:36.65 to earn fourth. Just behind him was Hayes, who also swam a collegiate best time (4:40.19) to finish eighth. MacMillan and Morris finished back-to-back in the 100-yard backstroke. MacMillan’s 57.98-second race placed him seventh, a hundredth of a second in front of Morris (57.99). Judson McIntosh swam an all-time personal best time in the 100-yard freestyle, being one of three Lehigh swimmers to earn top ten placements. He led in 46.33 to finish eighth, first year Braeden Roach was a hundredth of a second behind in ninth (46.34), and Moon was right behind him in 10th with a new personal record (46.40).
First-year Ben Elie was Lehigh’s top placing diver for both heights. He first finished 13th at three meters and scored 182.90, and later scored 181.15 to place 14th at the one-meter height.
Lehigh now sets their sights on the Patriot League Championship. This four day meet will see the Mountain Hawks back in Annapolis February 18-21.
