North Carolina High School State Champion Vincent Battaglini Sends Verbal To Navy For Fall 2027

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

North Carolina high school state champion Vincent Battaglini has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at the United States Naval Academy beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news in an email to SwimSwam, writing:

I am incredibly honored and excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the United States Naval Academy, where I will have the opportunity to compete, study, and serve my country. Thank you to Coach Bill Roberts, Coach Jake Brown, and Coach Mark Liscinsky for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to join the Navy Swim & Dive family. I’m grateful for the support of my family, coaches, teammates, and friends who helped me get to this point. Dad, thank you for teaching me discipline, consistency, perseverance, and hard work both in and out of the pool. Mom, thank you for always being there for me and encouraging me through every challenge. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and excited to represent the United States Naval Academy as a member of Navy Swim & Dive.

A rising senior at the Durham School of The Arts, Battaglini has been a member of his school’s varsity swimming and diving team for the past three years. He also currently swims year-round with East Carolina Aquatics, where he specializes in sprint freestyle and butterfly. Swimming is a family affair for the Battaglinis, as his brother Lucca is currently a rising junior at the University of California, Berkeley.

Battaglini is coming off a 2025-26 short course season that saw him drop a second and a half in the 200 free, a second in both the 50 and 100 free, and a few tenths in the 100 fly. He set his current PBs of 21.67/47.14 in the 50/100 free at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 5A State Championships in February. As a sophomore competing at the 3A level, he finished fourth in the 100 free and 500 free, after placing eighth in the 200 free and 11th in the 500 free as a freshman.

Battaglini registered his best times of 52.96 in the 100 fly and 1:44.44 at a local club meet, the NC ECA Southeatern Classic, in late November.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 Freestyle: 21.68
  • 100 Freestyle: 47.14
  • 200 Freestyle: 1:44.44
  • 100 Butterfly: 52.96

A Division I Mid-Major program, Navy competes in the Patriot League, with the men’s team winning this past season’s conference championships. To earn a second swim at the meet, it took times of 20.91/45.64/1:40.76 in the 50/100/200 free and 50.01 in the 100 fly, putting him a bit outside the cutoffs, though he still has two full seasons of training ahead before lining up at his first conference meet.

Battaglini joins Tristan Furlow, Cole Nelson, Thomas Smith, Alexander Ivascu, Zachary Mcnabb, Camp Hartman, Ryan Baldwin, Alex Jungbluth, and Parker Efird in committing to Navy’s class of 2031 so far.

Plenty of kids who go there with killer times don’t get better and there are certainly people who come in that aren’t super impressive who drop oodles and become big dogs. Depends on the kid & their drive.

You don’t have to express every thought you have.

Fo you 💩 talk adult members and veterans of the armed services to their faces? Or just high school kids who commit to attend a service academy?

He isn’t that far off the second swim times for Navy’s conference and he still has his senior year to drop more time. Navy’s top guys are a lot faster than he is but if he continues on the improvement curve he’s on, he can be in the mix.
