ROCHESTER, Mich. — The Miami University swimming and diving team finished strong at Oakland University on Saturday, Jan. 10. The RedHawk women defeated Oakland 246-107 and also defeated Denison 236-117. The men fell to Oakland 148-205 but defeated Denison 242-111.
How it Happened:
- Day two of the meet against Oakland University and Denison University started with the women’s 400-yard medley relay. The women’s A team finished first. Ella Ziegert, Madison Watschke, Kaylin Herbet and Julia Waechter turned in a combined time of 3:43.32.
- The men’s 400-yard medley relay followed where the men’s A team finished in third. Jensen Nelson, Benjamin Eichberg, Duncan Salmen and Tegan Barrier posted a combined time of 3:14.27.
- Gracie Gregory came in first-place in the women’s 1000-yard freestyle posting a time of 10:08.11.
- After that was the men’s 1000-yard freestyle where Elijah Rolfsen finished first, earning a time of 9:11.94.
- The women’s 200-yard IM followed where Piper Prince finished in second-place with a time of 2:03.69.
- Next up was the men’s 200-yard IM. Owen Hoban finished second, turning in a time of 1:47.84. Michal Piela clocked a time of 1:48.87, which was good for third place.
- After that was the Women’s 200-yard backstroke where Ziegert finished in second-place, earning a time of 1:58.80.
- The men’s 200-yard backstroke was next where Nelson finished third, posting a time of 1:46.72.
- Herbet finished first in the women’s 100-yard freestyle, turning in a time of 49.84. Waechter was right behind her in second-place with a time of 50.75.
- The men’s 100-yard freestyle followed. Ian Rodrigues-Kmiliauskis finished in fifth-place with a time of 44.74.
- Next up was the women’s 200-yard butterfly where Gracie Gregory finished second, earning a time of 2:04.93. Mady Bachmeier was in third-place, earning a time of 2:05.31.
- Hoban finished in first-place in the men’s 200-yard butterfly, turning in a time of 1:47.92. Piela was third, posting a time of 1:49.21.
- Watschke was first in the women’s 200-yard breaststroke, recording a time of 2:17.35.
- The men’s 200-yard breaststroke followed. Pablo Silva finished fifth with a time of 2:03.23.
- The women’s 200-yard freestyle relay was next. The women’s A team finished first. Natalie Gilson, Waechter, Halliday and Herbet turned in a combined time of 1:32.03.
- Swimming events concluded with the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay. The men’s A team finished second. Duncan Salmen, Rodrigues-Kmiliauskis, Allen Cotton and Barrier.
- For diving events, Sydney Rice finished first in the women’s 3M dive with a score of 285.60. Nora Kowalski was second, tallying a score of 265.55. Gretchen Osmun was third, turning in a score of 261.70.
- Tuck Gregory was first in the men’s 1M dive, turning in a score of 321.80. Paul Hong finished in third place with a score of 294.20.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks swimming and diving team will return to Oxford on Jan. 16. The men will compete against Ball State University, while the women will compete against Eastern Michigan University. Events will start at 2 p.m.

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies concluded their final tri-meet of the season, hosting Miami (OH) and Denison at home over the course of two days for the first meet of the new year.
The men secured wins over both Miami (OH) and Denison, while the women defeated Denison but fell to Miami (OH).
DAY ONE
To kick off the meet, Oakland earned top finishes in the 200 medley relays. The women’s A team of Lydia Soldatke, Maya Dobry, Katherine Teng, and Avery Beal placed second with a time of 1:42.85, with the B team close behind at 1:43.11. On the men’s side, Oakland’s B team of Ajjuub Ezzat, Alexander Lakin, Max Haney, and Caleb Rohacs, took first overall in 1:26.81, while OU’s A and C teams finished second and fourth.
Nicholas Karel Subagyo stood out on the first day of the meet. The second-year Oakland swimmer finished first in the 200 free, second in the 500 free, and contributed to a fourth-place finish in the 400 free relay on Oakland’s B relay. Joseph Countryman and Ike Martinez joined Subagyo among the top finishers, with Countryman taking second in the 200 free and Martinez placing third in the 500 free.
The 100 breast was dominated by the Black and Gold, as Christopher Palvadre (53.15), Trevor Boodt (54.42), and Lakin (54.62) completed the 1-2-3 sweep. Just a few events later, Oakland’s Ezzat (20.28), Micah Scheffer (20.34), and Rohacs (20.36) took places 2-3-4 in the 50 free. Ezzat later earned an individual victory in the 100 back, taking first in 47.05.
Soldatke put OU on the podium in the 100 back, earning first with a time of 53.87. Grace Albrecht and Clarissa Bezuidenhout were just behind the freshman, placing third and fourth. Erika Pietras and Kendra Venter were both runners-up in their events, with Pietras finishing the 200 free in 1:51.22 and Venter swimming a 23.09 in the 50 free.
Kelley Hassett finished third for the Golden Grizzlies in both the 400 IM (4:24.64) and the 500 free (4:58.26), rounding out the podium finishes for the women’s individual swimmers. In the 100 fly, the Golden Grizzly men took third through sixth, with Haney leading the group 48.25.
In diving, Victoria Sanders and Owen Cox led the way for OU, placing fourth (1-meter) and fifth (3-meter), respectively. To close the meet, the women’s A team of Venter, Pietras, Soldatke, and Beal claimed second in the 400 free relay, while the men’s A team of Palvadre, Countryman, Charles Brown, and Harry Nicholson took first.
Other day one finishes included Cooper Dillman taking fourth in the 400 IM, Viviane Partridge placing fifth in the 100 fly, and Charisse Hickman finishing sixth in the 100 breast.
DAY TWO
Following the momentum from day one, Oakland opened day two with a women’s second-place and men’s first-place relay finish. Soldatke, Hickman, Partridge, and Beal (3:46.90) made up Oakland’s A relay for the women, while Ezzat, Palvadre, Scheffer, and Nicholson (3:10.39) formed the men’s A relay. The men’s B and C relays also placed second and fourth in the event.
In the longest event of the tri-meet, Hassett took second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:13.36, while Martinez, Dillman, and Subagyo went 2-3-4 on the men’s side. The success continued as Haney won the 200 IM in 1:47.28, Albrecht claimed third for the women in 2:03.82, and Soldtke (1:56.84) and Ezzat (1:45.80) took wins in the 200 back. Nicholson was runner-up in the 200 back behind Ezzat, with Eli Stoll and Andrew Gelston placing fourth and fifth.
Over at diving, Abigail McCool recorded her first top finish for the Golden Grizzlies, placing seventh overall in the 3-meter dive. Cox once again led the men, taking fifth in the 1-meter.
In the 100 free, Venter and Pietras were the top finishers for Oakland, placing third and fourth. Brown earned his first individual victory in the same event, winning in 44.13 with Scheffer and Countryman close behind in third and fourth. Martinez secured another podium finish in the 200 fly, taking second in 1:48.80.
The breaststroke group of Palvadre, Boodt, and Lakin once again showed their dominance, going 1-3-4 in the 200 breast to wrap up the individual events of the tri-meet. Hickman earned third in the women’s 200 breast with a time of 2:19.29.
In the final event of the day, Oakland’s women’s A team of Venter, Pietras, Albrecht, and Beal took second in the 200 free relay, while the men’s A team of Scheffer, Nicholson, Rohacs, and Brown won the event.

ROCHESTER, Mich.: Inside the OU Aquatic Center, the Denison men’s swimming and diving team took on Miami (Ohio) and host school Oakland University for its first meet of the New Year. The Big Red and the Golden Grizzlies haven’t swam against each other in over 25 years, with their last meet dating back to the 1998-99 season.
Head-to-Head Results
In the Big Red’s head-to-head with Oakland, they trail the Golden Grizzlies 145-41, and against Miami, Denison trails the Redhawks 131-55.
On day two, Denison fell to Oakland 267-86 and 242-111 to the Miami Redhawks to wrap the Oakland University Tri-Meet
Top performances:
On day one, Denison had three top-three finishes. The first was earned by Jack Hill, who finished third in the 200 Free with a time of 1:37.77. Then, over at the diving well, senior diver Brendan Stanley finished third in the 3-meter dive with a score of 323.70. The Big Red finished day one strong with a third-place finish in the 400 Free Relay. Hill, Nick Hensel, Harry Parsons, and George Goins swam the event in 2:58.63.
On day two, Denison tallied three second-place finishes. Nick Fogle would earn the first of the three after scoring a 297.85 in the 1-meter dive, earning him a second-place finish. Joining Fogle as a top-three finisher on day two was Jack Hill, who swam the 100 Free in 44.29 for second place. Rounding out all of the second-place finishes of the day was Liam Nelson, who swam the 200 Breast in 2:00.82.
