“I am immensely excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Boston College! I would like to thank my coaches, family, friends, and teammates for all the support they have given me throughout my swim years! I would also like to thank Coach Bruno and Coach Dara for this amazing opportunity! I am so excited for my future at BC! GO EAGLES

A commitment from sprinting ace Carley Kaplan will add depth to BC’s short-distance contingent. Kaplan, a South Florida Aquatic Club athlete, showed her ability to perform when it counts at Florida’s 2025 4A states. Representing West Broward High School, Kaplan dropped three quarters of a second off her 100 free best from 52.07 to 51.44. This proved swift enough for a 6th place finish. In addition to this high school feat, Kaplan is also a 2025 Futures qualifier and a Sectionals A finalist in the LC 50 back (31.75).

Kaplan’s best SCY times:

  • 100 free: 51.44
  • 200 free: 1:52.09
  • 50 free: 24.13
  • 200 back: 2:06.54

In Central Bucks YMCA swimmer Grace Petrakis, Boston College gains a Swiss army knife who could fill in for the Eagles in a variety of events. The Central Bucks East High School attendee has an impressive resume, which this summer included a top 8 finish at YMCA Nationals. This feat came in the LC 200 IM, registering a time of 2:24.37. At the same meet, Petrakis also added two 12th place finishes in the 50 back (30.91) and 100 back (1:05.98).

In short course, Petrakis is a PIAA 3A State finalist, placing 5th in 200 IM (2:04.77) at the most recent edition of the meet.

Petrakis’ best SCY times:

  • 200 IM: 2:04.22
  • 200 free: 1:53.91
  • 100 breast: 1:04.50
  • 100 free: 52.44
  • 100 back: 56.70
  • 200 back: 2:05.44

Led by Olympian head coach Dara Torres and Bruno Darzi Boston College finished 15th at the 2025 ACC Championships. Darzi was formerly a club coach in Coral Springs, Florida, not far from where Kaplan lives.

Within BC, Kaplan’s 51.44/1:52.09 would rank her among the Eagles’ top four 100 and 200 freestylers in both last season and this one, making her a likely relay contributor. Petrakis, meanwhile, could be the squad’s fastest 200 IMer, this season only trailing senior Julienne Saliou. For Kaplan and Petrakis’ strongest respective events, the 100 free and 200 IM, a 48.72/1:58.69 were required to make the ACC Championships C final.

The duo will arrive in Massachusetts alongside 2030 teammates Melissa Geiger, Vanessa Alvarado, Avery Cunneen, Caroline Kilty, Meg Dahlin, and Kelci Walsh.

Dara is coaching with Bruno Darzi, not Fratus. He knows the South Florida area well after coaching at Coral Springs. He is also the chairman of the Florida Gold Coast. Carley will make an impact at BC, she’s a great talent and wonderful to work with!!
