2025 SWIM ENGLAND NATIONAL WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2025 Swim England National Winter Championships are underway at the storied Ponds Forge International Swimming Centre in Sheffield, and flying somewhat under the radar amid the senior performances is 15-year-old Patryk Przyczyna, who has set two new British Junior Records in the sprint backstroke events.

On Friday, Przyczyna won the ‘B’ final of the 50 back in 24.58, touching out 21-year-old Harry Robinson of Io Man (24.67) and Plymouth College 18-year-old Toby Nakamura-Drew (24.76). His time took two hundredths off Dean Fearn‘s 2023 British Junior Record of 24.60.

Yesterday, Przycyzna returned to the pool to take on the 100, where he clocked a time of 52.69 to take the ‘B’ final ahead of 18-year-old Rio Daodu (53.12) and Nakamura-Drew (53.52), overtaking Fearn’s 2023 junior mark of 53.47 in the process.

Entering this meet, Przyczyna’s career-best performances were the 25.60 and 54.39 he established to win last month’s Swim England Winter Championships, meaning he dropped 1.02 and 1.7 seconds in just over one month’s time.

Notably, his 100 back time would have been quick enough to take eighth in the championship final, while his 50 would have been quick enough for ninth.

Przycyzna swims at the Eastbourne Swimming Club in Sussex, where coach Dan Wright is at the helm of the program.

Being so young, Przycyzna has limited international experience, but will certainly be one to watch as the long course season kicks off. His best times sit at 26.75 and 57.06, and it may not be long before he becomes a mainstay of the European Junior scene.

He does have international experience, as last July he competed at the European Youth Festival in Skopje, North Macedonia. There, he finished second in the 100 back (57.62) and 12th in the 100 free (53.88). He also helped the mixed 400 medley relay take silver with a 57.16 leadoff, the boys’ 400 medley relay take bronze with a 57.23 first leg, and the boys’ 400 free relay take bronze with a 52.73 split.
