Kuba Shaw of Sevierville, Tennessee and Yofang Yu of Rogers, Arkansas have announced their commitments to swim and study at UNC beginning in fall 2026.
Yofang Yu
Yu swims for Northwest Arkansas Aquatics and just finished competing at Winter Juniors-West. There he finaled in the 100 fly, finishing 14th in a 47.98. He was slightly faster in prelims with a season best 47.80. He also swam a season best 49.75 100 back for 55th and competed in prelims of the 50 and 100 freestyles.
He is currently a senior at Bentonville High School and swam to numerous Arkansas 6A State titles at the start of March. He won the 50 free in a 20.90 and the 100 free in a 45.34. He also helped Bentonville to two relay titles.
Yu’s Best SCY Times Are:
- 100 fly: 47.26
- 100 free: 44.92
- 50 free: 20.68
- 200 IM: 1:49.56
Kuba Shaw
Shaw swims for Tennessee Aquatics out of Knoxville and raced at Winter Juniors-East this past weekend. He swam to a huge best time in the 500 free, posting a 4:25.63 for 17th. That was a 2.95 second drop. He also was 27th in the 1650 free with a lifetime best 15:38.56, and also swam in prelims of the 100 free (45.37) and 200 free (1:39.53).
He is currently a senior at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School and finished 3rd in both the 200 free (1:38.87) and 500 free (4:30.23) at the TISCA State Championship back in February.
Shaw’s Best SCY Times Are:
- 200 free: 1:38.81
- 500 free: 4:25.63
- 1650 free: 15:38.56
The UNC men finished 4th out of 15 teams at the 2025 ACC Championships. The team scored 852 points and were led by Ben Delmar who scored 76 individual points.
For Yu, it took a 46.21 100 fly, 42.78 100 free, and a 1:44.70 200 IM to score. For Shaw, it took a 1:34.41 200 free and a 4:20.80 500 free to score. Shaw’s 1650 free best time would have been 23rd.
Yu and Shaw will arrive next fall as members of the class of 2030 along with Jackson DeBruin, Isaac Carsel, Blake Hill, and Evan Gluck.
