Erisman entered the meet as the top seed in the 500 free, but her performance this morning has drastically increased the margin between the 1st and 2nd seeds in the event going into finals. Before prelims, Erisman was seeded just 0.17 seconds ahead of Elizabeth Eichbrecht. Moving into finals, Erisman now has a margin of over three seconds from 2nd seed Brinkleigh Hansen.

Behind Erisman, a four-way battle is shaping up for the podium positions. 2nd seed Brinkleigh Hansen, 3rd seed Emily Wolf, 4th seed Elizabeth Eichbrecht, and 5th seed Clare Custer are separated by just 1.83 seconds.

Erisman is set to compete in the 50 free later this morning. She is the top seed in the event, with her entry time of 21.61 seeding her nearly half-a-second ahead of 2nd seed Charlotte Crush and 3rd seed Mena Boardman.

That seed time is the second fastest girls’ 15-16 50 free in history. Erisman is just eleven-one-hundredths away from matching the fastest in history, held by Claire Curzan, who swam a 21.50 second 50 freestyle as a 15-16 year old in 2021.

Good – the US needs her to be more of a 100 / 200 swimmer like the Aussies.

Too many of our top women are 50 and 100 swimmers.
