2025 WINTER JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – EAST

Day 1 Relays Heat Sheet

Welcome to the first session of the 2025 Winter Juniors — East Championships! The best junior swimmers in the United States are gathered at two meets this weekend with the East Championships swimming in Indianapolis, Indiana and the West Championships swimming in Austin, Texas.

The action in Indiana kicks off about an hour earlier than it will in Austin, which means all week East swimmers will be setting the standard for racing. We have seen NAG records broken at the East meet only to fall a few hours later at the West meet, so nothing is guaranteed.

Every night, SwimSwam will publish a “combined results” article where you can see the top eight across both meets, so don’t worry about keeping up with both at the same time.

Today’s action actually started with the 1000 freestyles, which we will recap below.

The relay session will likely feature a few big name swimmers including Laker Swim Club’s Rylee Erisman, who will be racing her last Winter Juniors after she reclassified to the class of 2026 last month.

Laker’s 200 medley relay is seeded 4th individually and their 800 freestyle relay is seeded first in the event. Both relays will race in the 2nd girls heat and Erisman could appear on one, both, or neither.

Audrey Derivaux, from the Jersey Wahoos, and Charlotte Crush, from Lakeside, are also major names to watch on the girl’s side as they hunt NAG records all weekend, starting with tonight.

Whenever boys relays are in the water, we also need to be aware of the Bolles School Sharks, and their propensity to NAG Record Breaking swims.

Girls 1000 Free — Top 8

  1. Elizabeth Eichbrecht (NOVA) — 9:39.02
  2. Brinkleigh Hansen (SPA) — 9:39.64
  3. Emily Wolf (FAST) — 9:42.65
  4. Clare Custer (SYS) — 9:43.25

The girls 1000 freestyle was close with Supernova Swim Team’s Elizabeth Eichbrecht, 17, earning the overall top time in 9:39.02, coming in just six tenths ahead of 15-year-old Brinkleigh Hansen from Saint Petersburg Aquatics.

Eichbrecht’s final time of 9:39.02 was a 10 second drop from her previous best 9:49.50 from the end of March. The senior Indiana commit swam a very consistent race, and actually sat behind Hansen at the beginning of the race, turning a little under a second behind at the 200 mark with her 1:51.50 to Hansen’s 1:50.83.

From there, Eichbrecht maintained her pace of 23-mids, splitting between 29.24 and 29.31 on six consecutive 50s. Hansen dropped off that pace a little jumping to 29.6s with a few 29.3s mixed in.

Eichbrecht ultimately came out on top, splitting 56.83 on her final 100 to hold off a late charge from Hansen, who came home in 56.23. Hansen’s time was a new personal best, dropping from the 9:43.00 she set in March.

Emily Wolf, from Fishers, rounded out the top three with an enormous drop from her previous best of 10:08.03. She touched in 9:42.65 to swim under 10 minutes for the first time. Wolf is committed to swim at NC State in the fall of 2027.

Sydney Hardy from the Sarasota Sharks finished 7th in 9:50.36 as the only 14-year-old in the top 8. This was a seven second drop from the 9:57.93 she swam in March.

Congrats to coach Kyle and the COA boys for the upset in the Medley!

Kyle was the head coach of the Ohio State club team that was effectively disbanded during COVID. He then found another training pool and rebuilt his program even stronger!

That’s some St. Charles level grit and fortitude if I’ve ever seen it

This has nothing to do with St. Charles. I don’t see them wearing St Charles Caps.

Kyle is an alumnus.

Best of luck to all the athletes.

Sydney Schoeck popped off a nasty 9.32.29 in the 1000 to cut more than 10 seconds off her best time and beat top seed Kayla Han. She is in for a big meet this weekend.

Sydney had a fantastic swim. Her seed time was from the first 1000 of one of her mile races at a local LSC meet. So it was expected that she’d have a solid drop.
