Regan Smith Lowers Own American Record Again With 2:00.20 200 Butterfly

Regan Smith broke her own American Record once again en route to a win at the World Cup series. Just last week, she posted a 2:00.28 in her win and tonight lowered that record to a 2:00.20. The swim also marked a new US Open Record and a new World Cup Series record. Prior to her swim in Carmel, the US Open record was a 2:03.39 set by Cammile Adams back in 2015 at the Duel in the Pool.

Smith was faster on her first and final 50s today and was a bit slower on the middle 100. Her biggest difference was coming home as she was 0.23 seconds faster today than a week ago.

With her swim tonight, she inches closer to becoming just the 3rd woman ever to break the 2:00 mark. Mireia Belmonte first did so in 2014 and Canada’s Summer McIntosh did so last year in a 1:59.32.
