Regan Smith Breaks Own American Record With 2:00.28 200 Butterfly

Regan Smith posted a new American Record and US Open Record swimming to a 2:00.28 in her win at the first of three stops in the World Cup series. That broke her own American Record of a 2:01.00 that she swam for silver at last December’s SCM World Championships. The US Open record of a 2:03.39 stood since 2015 as Cammile Adams swam the fastest time at the Duel in the Pool.

Smith is also the long course American and US Open Record holder in the 200 fly. She has a best time 2:03.84 in the long course version of the event that she swam at the Paris Olympics for silver. Her long course US Open time is a 2:03.87 from the Sun Devil Open in 2023.

She looks to become the 3rd women to break the 2-minute mark in the event. Mireia Belmonte first did so in 2014 and Canada’s Summer McIntosh did so last year in a 1:59.32.

The USA needs to swim more SCM, that way we can crush more records!

I bet she can beat a recovering Summer in this. If the trend from 2024 holds she’ll only be faster next week. 200 fly SCM is a different event than LCM
