Notre Dame Promotes Trevor Carroll To Associate Head Coach

Notre Dame has promoted Trevor Carroll to associate head coach for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. Carroll has been an assistant with the Fighting Irish for the last four seasons.

“I don’t think any statement that I make will do any justice to recognize the amazing work that Trevor has done over this past year,” Notre Dame head coach Michael Norment said. “Trevor is an absolutely brilliant coach. He is intelligent, organized and talented.  I’m thankful for how he embodies his position.

“Trevor loves Notre Dame and cares about this team. He cares about the coaches and everyone attached to the program. He’s an awesome family man with a beautiful family, and I think that is part of the secret sauce that makes him such an amazing coach. You have to have the passion and knowledge, but you also have to care about people. Incredible coach, even better person. He gets it. I’m just so excited that he’s on our team. GO IRISH!!!!”

Carroll was a member of the coaching staff during the historic 2023-2024 season for the men’s program as they finished 10th at the 2024 NCAA Championships, their highest finish in program history. Carroll arrived in South Bend in summer 2022 after spending four seasons as an assistant at Pitt. Prior to his time at Pitt, Carroll spent the 2017-2018 season as a volunteer assistant at Louisville. He spent his collegiate career at Louisville from 2013-2017.

Carroll’s promotion elevates him to the only associate head coach for the program. Joao De Lucca is an assistant coach and has been with the program since October 2023, and Max McHugh joined the coaching staff in September 2025 as an assistant as well. McHugh was the only coach that head coach Michael Norment added to his staff. Norment arrived in summer 2025 after previously spending time as associate head coach with the Georgia men.

Just last week, Notre Dame added another assistant coach to their staff as they elevated Jess Geriane from student assistant to assistant coach. Geriane spent her collegiate career as a member of the women’s program from 2021-2025.

The Notre Dame were 9th out of 15 teams while the women women were 11th out of 15 teams at the 2026 ACC Championships. The women were 33rd with nine points, and the men were 37th with 11 points at the 2026 NCAA Championships. It was the first season after the men’s swim program returned from their suspension during the 2024-2025 season.
