Luke Hobson swam to a new US Open record in the men’s 200 free posting a 1:41.19 to win the event in Carmel at the first of three stops in the World Cup Series. That broke the previous record of a 1:41.58 set by Australia’s Alexander Graham back in 2019 at the Lewisville meet in the ISL series.

Hobson was faster today on the first three 50s compared to Graham’s old US Open Record. Hobsonn is also the World Record holder in the event as he posted a 1:38.61 at last December’s SCM World Championships in Budapest. He was slower today on all four 50s compared to his time in Budapest. He is still the only man to have been sub-1:39 in the event, which he did twice at the 2024 SCM World Championships.
His swim today marked his first SCM US Open Record. He is the US Open Record holder in the LCM version of the event with a 1:43.73 from US Summer Nationals.
