The women’s relay lineups are out, and there are some shocks on the lists. France and the Netherlands have scratched their relays entirely, despite both being likely finalists.
Australia is using their top backstroker Kaylee McKeown and their top freestyler Mollie O’Callaghan on the prelims relay, likely securing their spot in the final tonight easily. The United States is using Katharine Berkoff, Lilly King, Claire Curzan, and Simone Manuel on their prelims relay.

And on the last day, team USA realized they could use Curzan on a relay. Do they read the SS comments?!
Italy resting Curtis for possible medal evening 50 free finals.
Simone Manuel is the Swiss Army knife of the US relay lineups. 4×100, 4×200, mixed medley and mixed 4×100, and now the medley. She’s having a great meet and is having criminally unheralded this world champs. My pickem’s may be destroyed, but her return to form deserves at least one public shoutout!!
So guessing they don’t want to use Douglass on the freestyle in finals and will keep her on breaststroke? Darn, really wanted to see King on one last relay with Regan Smith
After the split from Torri yesterday, don’t think it makes much sense to have Douglass not do breaststroke
Good for Douglass to get experience on the breast leg
Doubtful she wants charity.
Kate Douglass EARNED her spot on the breaststroke leg.
And go a 1:06? Nostalgia doesn’t belong here.
American split prediction –
Berkoff – 58.62
King – 1.06.07
Curzan – 56.98
Manuel – 52.91
Realistic
But, for curzan I would go 57.5
Probably, she hasn’t focused on LC fly in a long time
Is this relay good enough to give USA the lock for finals?
Everyone complaining the USA hasn’t used Curzan on relays so far better hope so
Yes of course
USA is cooked if this lineup somehow misses finals
why would it miss finals? Berkoff, king and Manuel are very good and curzan gone 56.2 in the past, curzan would have to go 59/60 and berkoff and king would have to go 1 second slower than their swims for them to finish outta of the top 5ish,
that’s what I’m saying, all 4 legs are relatively elite in each event individually and something drastically went wrong with team USA if it misses out
Really? Easily 1 or 2 seed going to the finals
Australia going with their A Team in the prelims. The coaches being very cautious after yesterday’s MFR embarrassment.
I reckon after negative headlines like this the coaches have gone into damage control .. as it does not look good for sponsorship https://www.news.com.au/sport/olympics/swimming/cocky-australia-torn-to-shreds-after-bombing-out-in-heats-of-mixed-4x100m-freestyle-relay/news-story/bf2cc5db8f612e968c431cfe359f9db0
Is this a bit of an overcorrection? Wasn’t Kaylee not feeling well? I’m surprised they’re not resting her
I’m not sure they have another good option on backstroke
Hannah Fredericks went 59.25 earlier this week but maybe she’s not well?
If Canada makes it through, we will probably see McIntosh step in for the freestyle and Ruck for the freestyle leg (Harvey said she would give everything she had left in the morning heats) and maybe Lepage over Angus.
McIntosh for 100 free didn’t work too well last time.
perhaps you mean Mcintosh on butterfly and Ruck on free?
Yes. If she’s going out in 58 points in IM and 2 fly, she has to have a 56 mid relay split in her, by far best fly option and can help Can at least sniff at minor medal.
Yup my bad just a typo
