Sixteen-year-old phenom Luka Mijatovic has broken his 20th National Age Group (NAG) Record, but this time the Pleasanton Seahawks swimmer joined teammates Tim Wu (16), Kaden Wong (16), and CJ Lee (16) to shatter the 15–16 mark in the boys’ 800 freestyle relay.

Swimming in a final tune-up meet before he heads to the World Championships, which start on July 26, Mijatovic led off his squad in 1:47.60. Wu logged 1:50.00 on the second leg, Wong checked in at 1:54.40 on the penultimate leg, and Lee anchored in 1:55.29. They touched the wall with a final time of 7:27.29, completely obliterating the 7:37.48 record set by Irvine Novaquatics’ Owen Kao, Justin Nguyen, Hunter Hitchens, and Andrew Koustik in 2016.

Splits Comparison:

Distance Pleasanton Seahawks Irvine Novaquatics
Lead-off Leg Luka Mijatovic — 1:47.60 Owen Kao — 1:53.04
2nd Leg Tim Wu — 1:50.00 Justin Nguyen — 1:52.98
3rd Leg Kaden Wong — 1:54.40 Hunter Hitchens — 1:54.92
Anchor Leg CJ Lee — 1:55.29 Andrew Koustik — 1:56.54
Total Time 7:27.29  7:37.48

For reference, the Pleasanton quartet was less than three seconds shy of the 17-18 NAG standard, which Adam Chaney, Jacob McDonald, Jake Foster, and Carson Foster notched in 2019.

In their individual events, Wong took 2nd in the 400 free (4:03.17) and won the 200 free (1:54.41), though he’s been as fast as 4:01.97 and 1:53.51 in those races. He did notch a best time of 16:44.98 for 3rd in the 1500, and also posted times of 58.15 in the 100 fly and 1:01.58 in the 100 back leading off a relay.

Wu, a Cal commit, placed highest in the 100 back (58.53). He also picked up bronze in both the 200 back (2:07.80) and 400 IM (4:37.20).

Lee earned bronze in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.43, just 0.15off his personal best, finishing behind teammate Dmitriy Oranskiy (1:55.09), who did not feature on the 800 free relay. Lee did, however, register new best times in the 100 free (54.57), 400 free (4:08.09), 100 fly (1:00.06), and 200 fly (2:13.86), earning multiple top-16 finishes.

Mijatovic won the 400 free (3:49.87) and 200 IM (2:03.64), and also swam 54.60 in the prelims of the 100 fly. Both his 100 fly and 200 IM swims marked new career bests, improving on his previous times of 55.26 and 2:04.27, respectively.

As a refresher, Mijatovic had a pair of mind-blowing performances in the men’s 200 and 400 free, as the 16-year-old shattered the National Age Group Records for 15-16 boys while also going faster than the 17-18 records.

On Day 2, in the prelims of the 200 free, Mijatovic put up a sizzling time of 1:45.92, advancing him into the ‘A’ final while shattering Maximus Williamson‘s 15-16 NAG record of 1:47.29 and dipping under Michael Phelps‘ 17-18 NAG of 1:45.99 that’s been on the books since 2003.

After placing 8th in the 200 free final (1:46.39), Mijatovic followed up the next morning with a lifetime best in the heats of the 400 IM, clocking 4:16.18 to rank 4th all-time in the 15-16 age group before placing 5th in the ‘A’ final (4:16.75).

On Day 4, he made history in the 400 free, breaking his 15-16 NAG record by more than three seconds in the prelims (3:45.89) while also going under Larsen Jensen‘s 17-18 record of 3:46.08 set in 2004. Mijatovic re-broke the record in the final, and, most importantly, landed a spot on the Worlds team by placing 2nd in 3:45.71.

Keeping his foot on the gas, Mijatovic closed out the meet by throwing down a new best time in the 800 free, clocking 7:53.80 to touch 4th and rank #2 all-time in the 15-16 age group behind Jensen (7:52.05).

It’s July 29th, 2025 and Trump is my President! Go Team USA!

I heard the US swim team got a terrible case of food poisoning in Thailand. President Trump must be furious, but let’s be honest, this has Biden’s fingerprints all over it. You don’t just fix a four-year disruption of the international Pepto-Bismol supply chain overnight.

Given all the comments here, I feel like at the next team meeting we should propose a 4th “T” – TRANSPARENCY!

Seriously??? next team meeting we need to propose a 4th “T” – TRANSPARENCY… because let’s be real, Trust, Teamwork, Tenacity clearly took a backseat somewhere around the time no one knew who was making decisions, why they were being made, or why Joe Natina rolls into practice every morning looking like he just wrestled his blanket for eight hours straight and lost. And instead of a warm-up, we get a wake-up call in the form of Joe crashing out like he’s auditioning for a reboot of Whiplash.

Joe’s coaching style seems to be based on the idea that fear is a motivator and burnout is a badge of honor. He’s so consistently out of touch with the swimmers’ mental, emotional,… Read more »

Well, I am glad you are writing this from your new SRVA club. Enjoy it, we certainly don’t miss you!

Oh, honey, I’m just so worn out hearing about all this mess with the SRVA option looking better every single day. I can’t take another story from my boy about that locker room nonsense—it’s breaking my heart that he’s so unhappy. I keep thinking, maybe if us parents could just keep an eye on things, all these shenanigans would stop, but at PLS? They act like we’re nothing but a bother. We’re the ones paying all these fees, and still, it’s like our voices don’t even matter. I’m just… so tired of it all.

The “February incident” that has been a topic of discussion in this forum, regarding the situation where Natina’s bullying brought a former Shark swimmer to tears.
Given that some in this forum continue to defend Joe’s integrity, here is a deeper dive:

To provide clarity, let’s review the circumstances leading up to this point. Prior to the merger, Joe made several key assurances to Shark families to ensure they would follow him to PLS. He emphasized that this was intended to be a merger of equals, with himself as head coach, collaboratively developing training sets with Steve. He also expressed a desire to integrate the positive aspects of the Sharks culture into the PLS environment, aiming to improve it.… Read more »

He’s definitely a “You can’t fire me, I quit!” kind of guy. I’m not sure if he’s trying to guard his own feelings or maintain some perfect picture of the team, but playing so fast and loose with the truth when talking to the swimmers about certain people leaving his team… well, that’s just not right.
An adult in a position of authority, especially one who talks about the importance of “Trust,” needs to live that trust. Our young swimmers are looking up to him, and this isn’t the kind of example we want them to follow. And you know what else, sweetie? The swimmers themselves need to see this for what it is and not just accept it… Read more »

It appears some of you still require a remedial course in basic observation and critical thinking, particularly regarding the so-called “February incident.” When faced with a glaring example of moral decrepitude, one does not merely “point out” a flaw; one dissects it with the precision of a surgeon and the ruthlessness of a loan shark.

For the benefit of those who consistently demonstrate a remarkable talent for missing the bleeding obvious, let me re-illuminate the situation. Prior to this so-called “merger” – which, let’s be honest, was less a merger and more a hostile takeover disguised by a thin veneer of civility – our dear Joe was quite the orator. He peddled a fairy tale of “equals,” of shared power… Read more »

Arr, every swab on deck be jabberin’ ’bout Natina’s nepotism, eh? But what o’ his swimmers? Those lads came in LAST at the winter JNATS, a true embarrassment to the fleet! Aye, he’s seen some treasure with the lasses, but how in the seven seas has he managed to plunder such talent, I ask ye?
Poor Raya! Her tale be a tragedy, indeed. Cast aside like old rope as soon as Mikayla appeared on the horizon. She’s regressed faster than a barnacle-covered hull, and caterin’ to her needs be lower than the bilge in Joe’s priority list! A true shame, it is.
Then there be Dani, who’s been made a backstroke specialist at the tender age o’ fifteen!… Read more »

Joe showing up on that picture strikes me as a bit of a photo bomb. It’s not like he had much to do with producing Luka and Tim, which were the main reason the NAG was broken.

Would you rather have coach stephanie in the picture???

Right, not sure if that question’s entirely serious. I’d initially thought just the swimmers would be the main focus. But now that you bring it up, she definitely put in a lot more deck time helping train Luka and Tim than Joe ever did. So, if the culture wasn’t so male-dominated and obsessed with chasing clout, yes, it would’ve been a really decent gesture to acknowledge her contributions.

Alright, here we go, time to drop some TRUTH BOMBS!
So, Joe started the Sharks team, right? NOT because he loves swimming or whatever, but because he KNEW Dmitry was gonna be a beast in the water and Joe’s WHOLE PLAN was to make sure Dmitry didn’t succeed. Like, seriously, he secretly recruited him, gave him a “special” program designed to hold him back! I mean, totally makes sense.
But wait, Dmitry is too smart for that nonsense, right? He leaves the evil coach (aka Joe), and is like, “Later, loser!” and Joe was like, “Noooo! I’ll never give up on my mission to destroy Dmitry!” So what does Joe do? He merges the Sharks with PLS, with… Read more »

Yo… bro swears he’s playin’ 5D chess like he some tactical genius with a stopwatch and a villain arc. Joe out there benchin’ Dmitry from the 800 relay talkin’ bout “It’s strategy.” Bruh, you ain’t playin’ chess, you playin’ Jenga in the Dark! Meanwhile, we out here tryna survive warm-up without cryin’ in our goggles.

But Dmitry? Nah, Dmitry’s built different.
Bro straight up escaped a sabotage swim program like it was Shawshank Aquatics. He dodged a fake marriage arc, survived a missing dog side quest, and came out the other side like a Marvel origin story with fins.

Then outta nowhere- BOOM!
CJ crawls outta Joe’s carry-on lookin’ like a
half-evolved swim team Pokémon nobody wants but… Read more »

Of course the conversation revolves around Joe’s shameless nepotism with former president Lee’s clan. When favoritism is that loud, that entitled, and that grotesquely obvious, it’s getting this many replies. Because it hits a nerve. It is the blatant favoritism that everyone sees but few dare to say out loud. When you spell out the obvious people react. Some defend it, some deny it, but everyone’s forced to look at it.
