Assistant Coach – Men’s & Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach

Augustana University invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach – Men’s & Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach. This position provides administrative, instructional, academic and recruiting support services under the direction and supervision of the head coach. This is a 12-month position within our Athletic Department responsible for assisting with cultivating a positive training environment that encourages team building, accountability, discipline, work ethic, and mentally and physically healthy student-athletes. Responsibilities also include assisting the head coach in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the sport program as well as possible additional responsibilities as assigned within the athletic department. Additionally, the position is responsible to the head coach for assisting and directing the management of the team. Specific responsibilities include but not limited to: coaching, coordinating the players on the defense/offense, as well as recruitment of student athletes to the swimming and diving program.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the head coach in planning and conducting swim and dive practices, meet preparation, and daily team operations.
  • Contribute to the development of training plans for swimmers and divers, ensuring alignment with individual and team goals.
  • Analyze performance data and video to evaluate technique and implement improvements.
  • Lead recruiting efforts by identifying, evaluating, and maintaining communication with prospective student-athletes and coaches.
  • Support student-athletes in balancing academic and athletic commitments; monitor academic progress and collaborate with academic services.
  • Coordinate team logistics, including travel arrangements, scheduling, and equipment management.
  • Work with athletic department units such as Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, and NCAA Compliance to support student-athlete welfare.
  • Teach courses as assigned, following university and departmental academic standards.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive team culture that supports student-athlete well-being and development.
  • Maintain compliance with all NCAA, conference, university, and athletic department regulations and policies.
  • Assist in organizing team camps, clinics, and fundraising events to support program development.
  • Represent the swimming and diving program in departmental meetings and on university committees as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the head coach to support the success of the NCAA Division II swimming & diving program.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Previous sport specific coaching experience necessary.
  • Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Coached high school or collegiate swimming and diving.
  • Has participated in a high school or collegiate swimming and diving program.
  • Experience in recruiting qualified student-athletes.

Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
