The 2025 America East Championships concluded on Saturday night, seeing Binghamton repeat as men’s champions while New Hampshire reclaimed the women’s title, earning their 5th in 6 years.
New Hampshire freshman Lydia Hart was a huge contributor to the Wildcats’ win, and she was rewarded as such. Hart won both Rookie of the Meet and Swimmer of the Meet on the women’s side. On Saturday evening, Hart earned her 2nd individual title of the meet and broke her 2nd conference record. She won the women’s 1650 free by a huge margin, swimming a 16:14.71. With the performance, Hart won the race by a stunning 42 seconds, also absolutely shattering the conference record, which stood at 16:33.54 from 2016. Of course, Hart’s swim also marks a New Hampshire program record.
Hart then concluded her meet by helping the New Hampshire 400 free relay to victory. Audrey Mahoney (49.98), Hart (50.28), Teagen Jeffers (51.57), and Amelia Labno (50.86) teamed up for a 3:22.69, touching just off the conference record of 3:21.97, which the Wildcats set last year. In some very positive news for New Hampshire, Hart, Jeffers, and Labno are all freshmen, while Mahoney is a junior, so this relay will be back next year.
Prior to helping the relay to victory, Mahoney won the women’s 100 free in 49.32, cracking the conference record. It was a very tight race, seeing UMBC sophomore Ashley Gutshall finish 2nd in 49.38.
Similarly, Labno won an event prior to the relay as well. Labno took the women’s 200 back in 1:59.56, touching 1st by 3 seconds. She was locked in a tight race through the first half, then broke away from the field, maintaining her early pace while the others faded.
NJIT freshman Ilias El Fallaki cracked the pool record in the men’s 1650 free, swimming a 15:26.51. He wasn’t far from the conference record, which was set by Haythem Abdelkhalek at 15:21.41.
NJIT senior Samuel Deemer took the men’s 200 back in 1:44.81. He won the race by 2 seconds, clocking a new career best.
Conner Lofstrom, a Bryant senior, won the men’s 100 free in a new pool record of 43.83. His performance marks a new career best.
Another Bryant senior, Elayna Pistrin, took the women’s 200 breast in 2:15.80, cracking the pool record. She narrowly beat out New Hampshire freshman Lily Jackson-Oates, who swam a 2:15.90.
NJIT freshman Borys Endle took the men’s 200 breast in 1:59.13, leading a trio of freshman. Binghamton freshmen Jackson Kennard and Amir Sadykov came in 2nd and 3rd with times of 1:59.72 and 2:00.29.
Vermont senior Hally Laney won the women’s 200 fly in 2:00.36, setting a new pool record.
Oliver Gassman, a UMBC senior who won Men’s Swimmer of the Meet, as well as the Dave Anderson Coaches’ Award for most career points, clocked a 1:47.37 to win the men’s 200 fly. He was off his career best of 1:44.93, which he set back at the 2023 America East Championships, and stands as the conference record.
Bryant picked up a win in the men’s 400 free relay to close out the meet. Nick Toepfer (45.28), James Misto (43.56), Nick Andrews (44.60), and Conner Lofstrom (43.38) combined for a 2:56.82, cracking the meet record in the process. They were close to the conference record of 2:56.25.
