Nu Wave Swim Club is seeking an energetic, self-motivated, passionate swim coach to serve as the Assistant Age Group Coach for our site located at the Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, Louisiana. Qualified candidates should have strong teaching, communication and organizational skills. The Newman Site is home to all Nu Wave pre-competitive, developmental and advanced age group programs.
Prospective candidates should be able to coach safe, fun and effective swim practices for ages 6 to 13 while adhering to the Mission, Vision and Values of the club as established by the Head Coach. You will be expected to emphasize proper stroke technique and foster a love for the sport while representing the team in a manner that is consistent, professional and supportive.
The Assistant Age Group Coach will report to the Head Coach and The Head Age Group Coach.
Assistant Age Group Coach duties include:
- Coach all groups assigned to coach by Head Age Group Coach.
- Assist with evaluations for prospective swimmers eligible for Newman Site programs.
- Emphasize the importance of proper technique, teamwork, learning in a group setting, work ethic, and sportsmanship.
- Work with the Head Age Group to establish a seasonal/yearly training plan for WAVE swimmers the groups assigned to coach.
- Help identify and recommend swimmers for advancement based on the criteria set by the Head Coach and Head Age Group Coach.
- Attend selected swim meets.
- Effectively manage swim team administrative tasks connected to the swim groups.
- Take daily attendance for all groups responsible for coaching.
- Facilitate progress toward USA Swimming Club Recognition and Club Excellence Goals.
- Assist the Head Age Group Coach in developing cooperative and supportive relationships with the City of New Orleans, including local high schools, middle schools, and summer recreation teams in an effort to recruit new swimmers to the program.
- Positively represent WAVE in the local community as well as within the Louisiana Swimming community.
- Communicate effectively with WAVE Head Coach, Head Age Group Coach, Parents and Board of Directors.
- Abide by and actively uphold the USA Swimming Code of Conduct and all M.A.A.P.P. policies.
Job Requirements:
- U.S. citizen eligible to work in Louisiana.
- Previous coaching experience preferred but not required.
- Competitive swimming experience required.
- Experience with TeamUnify platform is a plus.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to team’s goals and assigned responsibilities.
- On deck schedule will be determined in coordination with the Head Age Group Coach and will include but not be limited to after school hours during the academic calendar, additional hours required for swim meets and administrative duties.
- Part-time hourly position with pay rate determined by experience.
- Start date is on or around April 1, 2025.
