Rex Maurer is coming off of the meet of is career, going 6-for-6 in lifetime bests across freestyle, backstroke, and IM events. This was highlighted by a 4:04.45 in the 500 free, which broke the hours-old American record set my his Texas training partner, Carson Foster. Maurer gives perspective on why he left Stanford to come to Texas, what training with Bob Bowman is like, and how the longhorns look to approach the rest of the NCAA season.

Great interview. He’s really well-spoken. I hope he becomes the USA’s answer to our 400 freestyle drought.
Testament to a good coach like bob making him exceptional and elite … and if he stayed at Stanford … we’d never know his potential. Congrats Rex
I believe he’s America’s answer to Leon Marchand. He’s an animal in practice and he’ll be key in 2028 Olympics in the 4×200 freestyle. The 500 translates well to the 200 meter freestyle.
Serious request: many sites have end-of-the-year “Best” lists or video highlights.
I think SwimSwam should do a 2-minute video of Coleman’s introductions that feature 5-second clips of various Coleman “looks” through 2024. These can be mixed and matched:
– blond hair
– dark hair
– long hair
– short hair
– various glasses styles
– mustache
– goatee
– soul patch
– full beard
– three-day growth
– map background
– halo around his head background
The fans would love it!

How tall is Rex? He mentioned he wasn’t big like Alexy and Hobson, but he doesn’t look small.
he’s tall (though not Alexy-tall) but one of these things is not like others
He’s tall, probably around 6’5-6’6 but, more of a Yannik Agnel build than Hobson and Alexy.
Let’s not compare anyone to Yannik Agnel please!
Awesome cover photo, he looks like the Terminator!
Well spoken. 🤘🏼🤠🐂
