Paralympic finalist Alyssa Gialamas has committed to swim at Loyola University in Maryland next fall, where she will join what is becoming almost a synonymous Para-swimming training center in the country that includes the likes of Joe Wise (now retired), Becca Meyers, and previously included Philip Scholz. Their coach Brian Loeffler was one of the U.S. coaches at this summer’s IPC World Championships
Gialamas is a native of suburban Chicago, where she swims for the Fox Valley Swim Team and Waubonsie Valley High School, and is a multi-time Illinois High School State Champion.
At the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, Gialamas swam the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles in the S5 class, including a 5th-place finish in the 200 free. She improved that to a 4th-place finish at the 2013 World Championships, though she added 7 seconds in the process. Gialamas’ yards bests are a 45.12 in the 50 yard free, a 1:34.9 in the 100 yard free, and a 3:04.7 in the 200 yard free.
