The Pleasant Valley Swim Team (PVST) is a non-profit, board governed, coach-led, year-round competitive swimming organization that has been cultivating exceptional community members in Camarillo and Ventura County for over 40 years. Our team includes over 100 swimmers, ages 6-18, ranging from pre-competition groups to senior/elite level swimmers. We train at both the outdoor Adolfo Camarillo High School Aquatic Center and the climate-controlled indoor Pleasant Valley Aquatic Center, which is the only indoor facility in Ventura County. PVST is a member club of USA Swimming and the Southern California Swimming local swim committee and is proudly sponsored by the Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District.

Qualifications

  • Deep passion for the sport of swimming and a commitment to developing young athletes.
  • Expertise in current technique development and targeted training methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of stroke mechanics, starts, turns, and finishes, as well as the ability to analyze and correct technique.
  • Desired ≥3 years of experience in competitive swim coaching. Willing to consider a combination of competitive swimming experience + < 3 years coaching for the right fit.
  • Ability to work effectively with swimmers ages 6-18 and all skill levels.
  • Prior experience working in a non-profit organization and working with a Board of Directors to establish annual business plans that support diverse swim group needs is beneficial.
  • Active membership, or willingness to get certified, in USA Swimming, with all certifications up to date.
  • Ability to create a supportive environment, fostering a love for the sport and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong leadership qualities to build team cohesion, set goals, and create a positive team culture.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with athletes, coaches, and parents.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with the latest coaching techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop seasonal training plans tailored to different age groups and skill levels. Execute plan, assess athlete performance, and make necessary revisions as you progress through the season.
  • Create an organized, fun, supportive learning environment that fosters correct technique, strong work ethic and self-discipline.
  • Conduct periodic swimmer evaluations, providing positive reinforcement and feedback regarding areas of improvement and strategies for execution.
  • Oversee, training, and developing assistant coaches and instructors.
  • Create, attend, and coach swim team practices – times may vary throughout the year but primarily between 4 – 8:00 pm weekdays and 7/8am – 9 am weekends (meet weekends excepted)
  • Assist in organizing, executing, and concluding PVST-hosted events, including swim meets and clinics.
  • Develop meet attendance schedule and enroll swimmers.
  • Attend and coach swim meets (1-2 per month)
  • Collaborate with the coaching staff and board to manage the day-to-day operations of the club and contribute to its long-term development.
  • Attend and participate in monthly board meetings.
  • Maintain a valid USA Swimming membership and keep all certifications up to date.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of USA Swimming, SoCal Swimming and Pleasant Valley Swim Club.
  • Conduct yourself with integrity, fostering positive relationships with athletes, parents, caregivers, officials, and fellow PVST staff.

Pay and Benefits

  • Compensation: commensurate with experience
  • Annual performance bonus
  • PVST will reimburse for USA Swimming registration and reimburse any fees associated with certification.
  • PVST will reimburse any travel fees associated with approved swim meets/ team functions.

Compensation is influenced by several factors, including skills, experience, and relevant past roles. The role involves irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, and requires weekend work with participation in meets at local, regional, and state levels.
