The rivalry between the US and Australia already is shaping up through night 2 of swimming competition as the US now takes over the top of the medal table after Australia led through night 1.
The US picked up its second gold in the pool as Torri Huske swam to the win in the 100 butterfly and was followed right behind by Gretchen Walsh for a 1-2 US finish. The US also won another medal tonight as Carson Foster swam to bronze in the 400 IM in his first Olympic final.
Although Australia did not win a single medal tonight, they women look to have a big night tomorrow night in the 200 freestyle as Ariarne Titmus and Mollie O’Callaghan enter the final as the top two seeds. Titmus is the defending champion and current World record holder after breaking O’Callaghan’s World Record at Australian Trials.
France entered the medal table after Leon Marchand‘s win in the 400 IM, setting a new Olympic Record in the process. Japan and Great Britain also picked up their first medals tonight.

It’ll swing back to Australia tomorrow, then back to USA the next day. Then it depends on a few things
So nice to see Torri and Gretchen to win Gold and Silver! Torri had that pure joy that only happens in rare moments. Gretchen was awesome as well and should be so very proud. Some great people on the USA Swim Team!
