HEAD AGE GROUP COACH (FULL-TIME)
Summary/Primary Objective of Position
As the Head Age Group Coach, you will be responsible for the oversight and effective leadership of our 14 and under age group program. You will work closely with the Head Coach to create a positive and competitive training environment.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to seasonal planning, coordinating effective and efficient execution of daily swimming operations, overseeing swimmer and coach development, providing oversight to the age group coaching staff, and fostering communication with all families and staff members. As a full-time position, off-deck responsibilities and planning will also be required.
To coach, lead and motivate athletes in practice groups and at meets, promoting improvement and growth.
Typical Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead coach of at least two (2) practice groups. This includes planning and implementation of daily workouts for age group swimmers, attending meets as well as team and group social events. Periodic coverage of other practice groups (sick days, swim meets, etc.).
- Runs group practices, teaching competitive swimming to athletes of a wide range of age and ability, as well as delegating to and supervising assistant coaches to ensure that athletes are learning and improving.
- Develops seasonal plans and writes practice sets and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the Head Coach Coaching philosophy, developing plans to meet the needs of each athlete.
- Maintains and improves professional skills by participating in staff meetings, educational instructions, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars to stay current for best coaching methods.
- Assists with team tryouts, individual evaluations, Masters Program, and other team-related programs, as requested.
- Any additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
Coaching and Training:
- Grows and develops the base of our age group program so our swimmers develop into successful athletes.
- Develops and implements age-appropriate seasonal training programs for age group swimmers, focusing on stroke technique, endurance, and competitive skills
- Oversight of a comprehensive age-group dryland program in coordination with the Head Coach.
- Assists with the development and support of the Learn to Swim program.
- Completes meet entries in an accurate and timely fashion, ensuring that event selection is appropriate. Attends meets and provides on-deck coaching.
- Identifies athlete needs and makes appropriate training adjustments and develops strategies for individual training plans. Make determinations and decisions regarding competitions, events, and relays.
- Establishes and maintains standards of discipline to achieve an efficient training environment.
Communication/Team Building
- Maintains open communication with swimmers, parents, and coaches utilizing email, newsletter, social media, and parent/coach meetings to ensure consistent communication.
- Works in a supportive and collaborative manner with colleagues to provide a positive team culture and vision for the overall development of training groups and team performance.
Qualifications / Requirements
3-5 years of coaching and/or competitive swimming experience at the club or collegiate level.
Member in good standing of USA Swimming and current on all certifications. Ensures full compliance with all USA Swimming policies. Certified Pool Operator a plus, but not required.
Compensation
Pay commensurate with experience. Salary range: $42,500 – $46,000.
LEAD GROUP COACH (FULL-TIME)
Summary/Primary Objective of Position
To coach, lead and motivate athletes in practice groups, promoting improvement and growth.
Work with Head Coach to create full season training plans for stroke technique progression, dryland progression, training progression and taper strategies for all levels and effectively communicate to swimmers.
Primary responsibility involves coaching multiple age groups and skill levels. Coordinate training methodology, team drills and practice group goals with age group coaches. As a full-time position, off-deck responsibilities and planning will also be required.

- Maintains and improves professional skills by participating in coach’s education meetings, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars to stay current for best coaching methods.
Position Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Lead coach of at least two (2) practice groups. This includes planning and implementation of daily workouts, attending meets as well as team and group social events.
- Plans and coordinates the work of assistant and volunteers on deck and at competitions.
- Assists with team tryouts, individual evaluations, Masters Program, and other team-related programs, as requested.
- Supports and communicates with other administrators and staff.
- Knows, interprets, and follows school district policies.
- Participates and/or assists in coordination of Swim Club events and functions.
- Periodic coverage of other practice groups (sick days, swim meets, etc.).
- Any additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
Requirements
Member in good standing of USA Swimming and current on all certifications. Ensures full compliance with all USA Swimming policies. Responds in emergency situations.
Qualifications & Compensation
3 years of coaching experience, with at least 1 year as a lead coach.
Pay commensurate with experience. Salary range: $32,000 – $42,000.
ASSISTANT COACH (PART-TIME)
Summary/Primary Objective of Position
To coach, lead and motivate athletes in practice groups, promoting improvement and growth.
Responsibility will involve coaching multiple age groups and skill levels, implementing the training methodology, team drills and practice group goals as directed by the Head Coach and lead coaches.
Typical Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
(These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Assists in running group practices, teaching competitive swimming to athletes of a wide range of age and ability to ensure that athletes are learning and improving. Practices occur Monday – Saturday (hours vary between school year and Summer).
- Identifies athlete needs and makes appropriate training adjustments.
- Ensures attendance and participation is tracked daily.
- Attends and coaches weekend swim meets as directed.
- Assists with team tryouts, individual evaluations, Masters Program, Learn to Swim, and other team-related programs, as requested.
- Participates and/or assists in coordination of team events and functions.
- Assists coaching staff with administrative duties relating to the team as well as interactions with parents.
- Works and communicates in a supportive and collaborative manner with colleagues, swimmers and families.
- Maintains and improves professional skills by participating in staff meetings, instructional education meetings, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars to stay current for best coaching methods.
- Any additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
Requirements
Member in good standing of USA Swimming and current on all certifications, including: CPR, First Aid (or Lifeguard) certification, and safety training.
Qualifications & Compensation
- Previous aquatic teaching experience of 1-2 years is preferred; competitive swimming background is a plus.
- Must be able to manage, train and engage with 20-25 swimmers in a group.
- Pay commensurate with experience. $16 – $21/hour
