South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall women’s swimming and diving team claimed victory in its home opener on Saturday afternoon, defeating Monmouth, 189-83, inside Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. The Pirates paced the field in 15 out of 16 events, including six in which The Hall swept the top-three.
The afternoon kicked off with the Pirates taking the win in the 200 Medley Relay. Madeline Field (Wheaton, Ill.), Yosun Hacifazioglu (Istanbul, Turkey), Josie McCartney (Verona, Wisc.) and Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) combined for a time of 1:48.18 to take the win. The relay win jumpstarted the day for Seton Hall, as Field, Hacifazioglu and Heim would each go on to take victories in individual events later in the meet.
Field’s next win would come soon after the relay win, as she was able to touch the wall first in the 100 Back. Field came in at just under one minute in the event, finishing with a winning time of 59.29. Hacifazioglu would pick up her second win of the day in the following event, winning the 100 Breast in a time of 1:05.69. Both events saw the Pirates claim each of the top three spots.
Heim would find glory in the 50 Free midway through the meet, picking up the victory with a time of 24.04. She along with Field would also swim the last two legs on the 200 Free Relay team which posted the fastest time in the final event of the day.
Prior to those wins, Allie Waggoner (Moorestown, N.J.) and Amanda Zajdzinski (Mesa, Ariz.) got their strong afternoons started. The duo took first and second, respectively, in the 1000 Free, with Waggoner clocking a time of 10:19.89 to pick up the win. Zajdzinski would bounce back next event with a win in the 200 Free, finishing ahead of both Madeleine Bachand (Raleigh, N.C.) and Carys Graville (Cardiff, Great Britain). Both Waggoner and Zajdzinski would go on to record a second victory on the day, with Waggoner winning the 200 Back and Zajdzinski taking the top spot in the 500 Free.
Other Pirate victories on the day came from Silvia Alessio (Trieste, Italy) and Lea Moeller (New Lenox, Ill.). Alessio took the win in the 3-meter dive with a score of 311.70, one week removed from breaking the program record in the event. Later on, she would also post the best score in the 1-meter dive. Moeller’s individual victory came in the 100 Free with a time of 53.51 as the Pirates claimed the top three times in the event.
The Pirates are back in the pool on Friday as they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to face Drexel at 4 p.m.
South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall men’s swimming and diving team picked up the victory in its home opener on Saturday afternoon, taking down Monmouth, 178.5-93.5, inside Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. The Pirates paced the field in 14 of the 16 events on the day.
Things got underway with the 200 Medley Relay, which saw the Pirates claim each of the top three spots. Bryant LaCroix (Bloomsburg, Pa.), Ben Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.), Michael Klimaszewski (London, England) and Kevin Cary (West Chester, Pa.) combined to touch the wall in 1:33.59 for the victory. The win in the relay proved as a catalyst for these four for the remainder of the day.
Cary would go on to lead the pack in three more events on the day. The sophomore would touch the wall first in the 200 Free, finishing with a time of 1:40.09. Later, he would capture his second individual victory of the afternoon, completing the 100 Free in 46.67. Cary would also swim the anchor on the 200 Free Relay team to conclude the meet, whose time of 1:23.84 led the way.
Endersby and Klimaszewski also posted strong days in the pool. Endersby followed up his relay win with a first-place finish in the 100 Breast, doing so in a time of 57.52. This event saw the Pirates claim each of the top four spots, as Justen Lopez (Levittown, N.Y.), Gennarino Conzemius (Bethel Park, Pa.) and Lorenzo Tabladini (Brescia, Italy) touched the wall behind Endersby. For Klimaszewski, his individual victory came in the 100 Fly, as he took down the competition with a time of 51.42.
Clil Halevi (Kafar Hadranim, Israel) and Sean Vizzard (Mount Laurel, N.J.) traded places in the two distance events. In the 1000 Free, it was Vizzard narrowly edging Halevi for the victory, as Vizzard’s time of 9:24.59 was just 0.27 seconds faster than Halevi. Later in the 500 Free, the tide would turn in Halevi’s favor as he took the win in a time of 4:36.62.
Freshman Toma Adam (Bacau, Romania) swam the fastest time in a pair of events on Saturday. First, he took the top spot in the 50 Free, doing so in 20.99 just ahead of LaCroix. Adam would also swim the opening leg of the 200 Free Relay team that swam the fastest time to close out the meet.
Conzemius, Chris Jackson (Maywood, N.J.), Justin Oosterwyk (Pequannock, N.J.) and Trevor Post (Bay City,Mich.) also picked up wins on Saturday. Conzemius’ triumph came in the 200 Back, the second event of the day which saw the Pirates claim the top four spots. Jackson claimed the win in the 100 Back in 51.39, while Oostweryk’s win in the 200 Fly came in 1:52.74. Post took the victory in the 1-meter dive, narrowly beating out QUINN MURTHA with a score of 302.32 to Murtha’s 298.42.
The Pirates are back in the pool on Friday as they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to face Drexel at 4 p.m.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The Monmouth University men’s and women’s swimming teams began the road portion of their schedules at Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon at Imperatore Natatorium.
The men’s team lost to the Pirates, 178.5-93.5, while the women’s team fell by a 189-83 final score.
Jensen Ritter, Dylan Edge and Kacper Sobieszuk each earned individual victories to lead Monmouth’s efforts.

Jensen Ritter won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:08.93. Ritter won her fourth race of the year and the 14th of her career.
Dylan Edge placed first in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:54.63. It was his second victory of the year and the 19th of his career.
Kacper Sobieszuk earned his second victory of the season in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:58.30.
