CAL should have won this. Seeliger had a bit of an off meet. But I don’t mean to take anything away from Florida, who were outstanding.

This felt almost reminiscent of the 400 medley relay from SC worlds a few months back in the sense that both teams almost tied and the record fell in that sense and 2 titan teams were vying for the overall record but regardless still an amazing race no less.

Great video. The discussion on Leon’s 40.5 split had me thinking of this: what are the top 4×100 free relay splits of all time?

For scy the fastest is 40.15 by Dressel and Justin Ress 40.25 is the fastest non-dressel split

Super suited Adrian had a 40.23 in the 2009 400 Medley

Even a recent (last 7ish years) Cal 4free relay with Hoffer instead of Jensen would actually be disgusting. Hoffer lead off in 40.89, Lasco in 40.95, Alexy in 40.51, and Seeliger in 40.61 (I think that’s his relay best). That’s sub 2:43. Then, you can put a B relay with Seliskar somewhere in 41.1. Probably throw on the Matt Jensen split of 41.12. Don’t really know the exact list of top Cal 1free relay splits, but you’d have a lot of options from Michael Jensen, Pawel Sendyk, Ryan Murphy, Hugo Gonzalez, etc. I think you can probably construct a line-up where they’re just at or just under 2:45.

I’d actually be curious where that stacks up against the 4 best… Read more »

Only after the officials messed up the 50 free. Swimming needs to get to a place where we heckle officials for doing dumb things. Throwing stuff in the water. If you want a sport where fans are nice to officials… go officiate golf

I’m assuming the judges/officials are volunteers, or paid very little compared to the time they spend. They shouldn’t face too much criticism unless the error is egregious. The 50 free start, while sub optimal, was within the guidelines for starts (SwimSwam did an article on this), so it’s tough to find something to criticize other than the rules themselves.

Also, the poor start seemed to affect all competitors equally. Wasn’t perfect but as you said within the rules

Plus, it’s pretty clear that after the 50 free, the officials adjusted their starting strategy to avoid the same thing happening again. Which is exactly what any “heckling” of them would be designed to communicate anyway.

It’s NEVER ok to heckle an official. Paid or not paid, they don’t deserve YOUR frustrations and inability to cope with things out of your control. Get some therapy if you have these problems, there is people that can help you.
