While many of the top swimmers were competing at the 2022 Short Course World Championships, two-time Olympic silver medalist Arno Kamminga was getting it done at home.
Kamminga competed at the Dutch Short Course Championships in The Hague, wrangling up a trio of breaststroke event victories to cap off his racing year.
As a refresher, we reported that Kamminga opted out of Melbourne as he continued to recover from a series of illnesses that plagued his 2022 long course season.
Kicking off his weekend, Kamminga notched a winning time of 26.38 in the 50m breaststroke. The result came after he produced a slightly faster time of 26.24 in the heats to claim the top seed.
Also swifter in the morning was Koen de Groot who punched a new Dutch Junior Record with an AM time of 27.07. De Groot added a smidge in the final, ultimately winding up 4th in 27.15.
Kamminga’s next victim was the 200m breast where the ace notched a solid 2:05.27. Opening in 1:01.87 and closing in 1:03.40, Kamminga comfortably won the race in his fastest time of the short course season.
Of note, Steijn Louter, the 6th place finisher in the men’s 2breast, earned a time of 2:11,71 to establish a new Dutch Junior Record in the event.
Finally, the 100m breast saw Kamminga climb atop the podium, with the 27-year-old stopping the clock in a time of 58.01. Behind him was de Groot who produced a big-time personal best of 58.99 to put up his 2nd Dutch Junior Record of the meet.
Additional Notes
- Janna van Kooten logged a winning time of 4:05.92 in the women’s 400m free, taking the event by over 8 seconds. She logged a new Dutch Junior Record for her efforts.
- National record holder Renzo Tjon-A-Joe of Suriname produced a time of 47.41 to top the men’s 100m free podium, hitting the only sub-48 second time of the field.
- The women’s 50m fly saw Tessa Giele get it done for gold in a time of 26.46.
- Thomas Verhoeven was the quickest men’s 100m butterflier, producing a time of 51.00 to win the event by over two and a half seconds. That sliced .29 off of his previous personal best of 51.29 he posted in July of 2021.
- Lotte Hosper was the winner of the women’s 200m IM in 2:13.00 while runner-up Anna van Droffelaar hit a new Dutch Junior Record of 2:13.34 for silver.
