After finishing fourth in the 400 freestyle by 0.08 seconds, Australia’s Lani Pallister rebounded to finish third earning a bronze medal in the 1500 freestyle. Pallister swam a personal best time of 15:48.96 in her bronze medal finish, about four seconds behind silver and about seven seconds ahead of fourth place teammate Moesha Johnson. Pallister’s swim was a best time by about six seconds.
Pallister spoke on the swim saying, “It’s really special to win a medal. I was touched out by .08 in the 400m and I remember getting back to the hotel and I was just devastated. It’s really exciting coming to my first senior international meet and coming back to a pool that I loved three years ago and following the process as Bohly would say. Moving forward it’s a really nice stepping stone to see what I can do in the future. I think if I work the back end more rather than just attacking the front end then it’s an event that I could do something really special in the future.”

Pallister was out fast and had about a five-second drop off each 500, meaning on average she went 1 second slower each 100 after the 500 mark.
This was a huge swim for Pallister as it is her first senior international competition, meaning it also is her first senior international medal. Pallister had previously won three gold medals and three silver medals at the 2019 World Junior Championships which also took place in Budapest.
Pallister holds Australian National Records in the SCM 800 freestyle (8:10.12) and 1500 freestyle (15:28.33). She swam both record-setting times in November 2020 at the Australian Short Course Championships.
