Practice + Pancakes: Badger Swim Club Takes on 24x50s Best Average in 50yd Pool

I took a trip up to Larchmont, New York, where John Collins runs Badger Swim Club out of the 50yd pool in his backyard. They are only able to use the outdoor pool in the New York weather until Mid-November, but today was a crisp fall afternoon prime for getting some work in. John’s son, Jack Collins (Former Texas swimmer, Brother of Texas Associate Head coach Wyatt Collins) was running today’s main set, 3 rounds of 3×100 at 1:20 followed by 8×50 best average.

Grew up swimming in a 50y pool. Haven’t seen too many others.

I’ve seen a lot of what I think are 40-m pools usually dividing up a diving well / deep course for starting blocks. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen an actual 45 m/50 yard pool.

Run again I’m guessing some of those 40 m pools might have been 45 m but the bulkheads take away from possible lane length.

This was an actual 50y pool built way back in 40’s. Our other indoor practice pool was 25m. Go figure…

Cheers to John Collins. Remember him well from swimming in the Metro Region in the 70’s. It looks like he should do a crowd funding for a pool vacuum for those leaves.
