Kaela Lorenzen of Papillion, NE has announced her decision to swim at Southwest Minnesota State University beginning in the fall of 2021. She is a member of Papillion – La Vista High School’s swim team, and she swims for Sarpy County Swim Club.
“I chose SMSU because I felt like it gave a lot of opportunity to grow both athletically and academically.”
Head Coach and Aquatics Director at Papillion – La Vista High School Nick Baker stated, “Kaela has been a solid contributor in our programs and a great team leader. She missed the majority of this past high school season due to illness but has picked up right where she left off and will have a great senior season.”
In early February, Lorenzen competed at the Metropolitan Conference Championships in Omaha. She swam the 200 free and the 100 back, placing 26th and 28th respectively. The first 50 split of her 100 backstroke was a personal best time.

Lorenzen will be joining the Mustangs in the fall of 2021. Southwest Minnesota State brought home two medals at the 2020 Nothern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships. Freshman Natalie Bohnert went a 57.02 in the 100 back to earn a bronze medal and she went a time of 2:04.30 in the 200 back for the silver medal.
Lorenzen will be a member of the class of 2025.
