Leah Hayes, 13, powered her way to a 2nd-place finish in finals of the 200 IM at the 2019 Speedo Junior National Championships. Her morning swim was two seconds off of Missy Franklin’s 2009 NAG record, set at the 2009 Junior Nationals. This evening, Hayes closed that gap and is now only 0.36 away from the record.

Between her morning and evening swim, Hayes took 4.56 seconds off of her entry time of 2:17.62. Her time makes her the second fastest 13-14 200 IMer of all-time in the United States.

There’s something with Riptide. 🙂 Regan Smith’s club is Riptide. Leah Hayes’ club is Fox Valley District Riptide team.
Impressive showing from the 13-year-old girl in IM races this week. 2.13 and 4.46, WOW!
