Seventeen-year-old Abby Arens and 18-year-old Jake Foster hit the No. 4 200 breast times in 17-18 for the girls’ and boys’ ranks, respectively, Thursday night at the 2019 U.S. National Championships.

Arens, who swims for the Marlins of Raleigh and is committed to NC State’s class of 2014, went 2:25.80, splitting 33.49/37.19/37.35/37.77. She took second place to Madisyn Cox (2:23.84). Coming into 2019, Arens’ best time was 2:29.71, but she was 2:27.37 in prelims at Nationals.

Foster, who swims for the Mason Manta Rays and is committed to swim for Texas next season, won the B-final in 2:11.01 (29.69/33.22/33.77/34.33). He would have been third overall had he been in the A-final. Foster wrapped up 2018 with a best time of 2:13.21 in the event and was 2:12.87 in prelims Thursday. Reece Whitley won the men’s event in 2:09.69 while Daniel Roy took second in 2:10.01.

Lilly King and Roy hold the 17-18 200 breast national age group records.

Arens is also entered in the 100 fly, 100 breast and 200 IM this weekend. Foster placed 25th in the 200 fly on the first night of the meet and is additionally entered in the 200 and 400 IM and 100 breast later in the meet.
