After 19 Years with the Florida Gators, Martyn Wilby Moves to T2

Braden Keith also contributed to this report.

Martyn Wilby has spent 19 seasons coaching with the Florida Gators, and it was announced this May that he would be stepping away from Gregg Troy’s program and would not be pursuing any further coaching positions in the NCAA.

Wilby has now been named the T2 Aquatics Team Director, according to T2 Aquatics Chairman Kevin Erndl.

“Today marks an inflection point in the evolution of T2 Aquatics,” Erndl said. “With the vast experience and knowledge Martyn brings to an already talented staff, T2 is poised to continue its mission to become the coaching authority for committed athletes in Southwest Florida. Martyn has had success at every level of competition, and under his guidance, T2 Aquatics will grow as a competitive swim program, and as a critical asset to the community.”

T2 Aquatics sent three swimmers to the Olympics Trials this summer, including the oldest female swimmer at the meet, Erika Erndl, as well as NC State’s newest addition Elise Haan and 11-12 50m breast NAG record holder Matthew Limbacher.

Wilby will oversee the entire coaching staff at T2, as well as help out with T2’s community-based extensions at the Naples Swim School.

“I am very honored and excited to join the T2 Aquatics staff,” said Wilby. “The vision and leadership established under Kevin Erndl is inspirational, and compelled me to return to my Club Swimming roots. I am motivated by the opportunity to participate in the growth and development of T2, where we are actively involved in our community through the Naples Swim School, Paradise Coast Swim Conference, and the learn-to-swim programming we run in partnership with the Greater Naples YMCA.”

Wilby arrived at the University of Florida in 1998, and during his tenure the team has won 330 dual meets, 6 SEC Championships, 34 individual national titles, and over 900 All-American honors.

He’s a native of Darlington, England, where he was a four-year letter winner at the University of Kentucky from 1982-1986 and also a member of the British National Team. He and Gregg Troy first coached together for 7 years at the Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, including being named the 1994 Florida Age Group Coach of the Year.
