Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace Hits 100 Fly Olympic ‘B’ Standard at CISCs

Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships

The Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships (CISC) started up yesterday in the Bahamas and will run through July 2nd, with the meet representing the final opportunity for Olympic qualification for some nations.

Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of the Bahamas hit a FINA ‘B’ qualifying time yesterday to win the women’s 100 fly CISC title. Her winning 1:00.01 came in nearly a second under the ‘B’ mark of 1:00.80, but it wasn’t fast enough to hit the 58.74 ‘A’ qualifying time.

Vanderpool-Wallace represented her country in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. IN 2008, she finished 23rd in the 100 free and 43rd in the 100 butterfly. In 2012, she was 10th in the 100 free and made the championship final of the 50 free, finishing eighth.

She swam for Auburn University and was the 2011 NCAA champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

At last year’s FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia, she finished fourth in the women’s 50 free (24.44).

Vanderpool-Wallace currently sits fourth in the world in the 50 free, behind only Farida Osman, Olivia Smoligaand Abbey WeitzeilThe 50 free will take place on Sunday.
