WOMEN’S 50m BREASTSTROKE

UBC’s Tera Van Beilen is perfectly set up to sweep the breaststroke events here at her last CIS Championships. Van Beilen was a 31.43 this morning in the 50m breaststroke in order to take the top seed over Rebecca Terejko.

As the winner of both the 100 and 200m breaststrokes, Van Beilen looks to have the advantage tonight, but there is plenty of talent in the final.

Erin Stamp, who could make it a 1-2-3 podium sweep for UBC if both Van Beilen and Terejko retain their placings, was a 31.57 for third overall. She tied with Tianna Rissling of Calgary.

Behind Stamp and Rissling was Alexandra Naisby of Sherbrooke who has been a threat all meet long in the breaststroke events. She was a 31.98 this morning for the fifth seed overall.

WOMEN’S 100m FREESTYLE

Western’s Paulina Bond looks to be the one to beat in the 100m freestyle after putting up a 55.26 this morning. If anyone could disagree more with that statement it would be Toronto’s Paige Schultz who was right behind in 55.27.

The two leaders won’t be alone tonight. Montreals Roxane Lemieux put up a swift 55.69 to take the third seed ahead of UBC’s Rebecca Terejko. Terejko was a 55.84 at the touch.

WOMEN’S 200m IM

The women’s 200m IM final might be one of the most competitive finals of the entire competition as all the top seven in the event have won a CIS medal at some point in their careers, several of them include gold.

Canadian national record holder Kylie Masse and Pan Am Games finalist Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson tied this morning with a 2:12.65 to take the top seeds. Behind them was UBC’s Erin Stamp in 2:14.40 just ahead of Tera Van Beilen.

Van Beilen, who will swim the 200m breaststroke final prior to the 200m IM final, rocked a 2:14.94 to take the fourth seed. Toronto’s Paige Schultz and Montreal’s Marie-Pier Couillard closely followed.

Add in Sophia Marois from Montreal and the final is jam packed with talent and will see some previous CIS medallists adding to their medal count.
